Frederick Lloyd CARLETON enlisted on 24.10.1939 No VX1555 age 33 Years. He was posted to 2/6th Div Signals but was discharged Medically unfit on 20.1.1940. He then re enlisted on 1.7.1940 No VX33476, posted to 2/23rd Bn 20.8.1940, promoted L/Cpl 14.9.1940, embarked for the Middle East 16.11.1940, promoted to Cpl 18.12.1940, Sgt 14.12.1941, embarked for Australia 31.4.1943 and disembarked Melb 25.2.1943. In the Middle East he was one of 10 to receive a Commander in Chiefs Commendation during Sept 1941. Served in the Tobruk Seige , Lebanon and El Alamein. He met and married a British Army Nursing sister in Palestine 1942. Hospitalised in Seymour Vic with Furuncles. Embarked for Milne Bay from Cairns and disembarked 4.8.1943, embarked 31.1.1944 (unclear) and disembarked 7.2.1944 (unclear), hospital with Malaria 2.6.1944. Embarked for Egypt 4.6.1915, embark for Gallipoli 30.8.1915, hospital 8.10.1915 (unclear) rejoin unit 20.10.1915, embark for France 19.3.1916, hospital 12.11.1916 with Blistered Feet, rejoin unit 5.12.1916, detached to 2nd Div Engineers 6.7.1917, rejoin unit 29.12.1917. After getting himself into trouble AWOL twice then threatening an Officer he transfers to the 23rd Batt on 20.8.1918, KIA 1.9.1918.Xmas /New year card from Pte S BARRIE. The outer cover is yellowish cardboard with a light paper on the inside. A string tassel runs up through the spine with a faded purple tassel on the end.Front cover; Australian Engineers badge with a spring of wattle under then the words “One King, One Flag, One Empire” with a crown and flag. Under the words “On Active Service 1915-1918”. A typying error on one post card states 10th reinforcements, 1st reinforcements as per his enlistment papers.Two post cards on an A4 size paper attached Via photo corners. Frederick Ernest ADDLEM Initially enlisted as No V122087 in the CMF (57/60th Bn) on 16.9.1941. His New Guinea service is listed as from 8.3.1943 to 11.8.1944. While there he transfers to the 2nd AIF as VX142253 on 9.6.1943. WIA on 18.3.1944, GSW to heel, returns to duty classed medically “A1” on 11.8.1944. Fred then embarks for Bougainville and this service is classed from 1.1.1945 to 15.2.1946. While in Bougainville he is hospitalised twice, once with Dysentry and then with Dermatitis. He is discharged from the 2nd AIF on 1.4.1946.
