A photo of Captain P E Potts in Charleroi, Belgium in 1919. The note on the back mentions he was part of a 2nd Division concert party that helped raise funds to erect a war memorial in Mont St Quentin. Mont St Quentin was a site of a major battle in 1916 where 3000 Australian soldiers died in 3 days. Another photo from Charleroi in 1919 is at 01900 and Captain Potts may be one of the officers in the front row. The photo may have fallen out of an album of newspaper clippings and photos compiled to thank Legatee Philip E Potts when he was leaving Melbourne in 1928. L/ Potts was president of Legacy in 1927-28. This equipment was located in the outpatients department (Philip Block) until September 2021 when it was deemed obsolete by Infection Prevention. Hubert Ingham Clements (1886-1969) was an Australian engineer who established his own engineering business in NSW in 1908 manufacturing combustion engines. He became interested in anaesthesia equipment and from the 1920s Clements worked on improving ether apparatus and manufacturing portable suction machines for use in hospital operating theatres. The latter machines were to earn an unrivalled reputation for reliability; many remained in service over thirty years after their date of production. The business became H. I. Clements & Son when his son William joined the company. In the 1970s this church had met in temporary premises in Eltham. Lots of the original 1920s subdivision remained south of Nyora Road and a number of these lots were utilized for the Eltham Christian School, which was established by the Eltham Christian Church in 1981. The school operated on this site until 2000. The premises were owned by the Nillumbik Community Church who were in operation till November 2010 when the Eltham Baptist Church commenced a lease arrangement until the site was purchased by them in April 2012. The building is constructed of brick and timber with a balcony on two sides that looks over an expanse of grass. This DVD gives information about the Pye family. Thomas Pye came to Sydney as convict in 1837 and was assigned to work for Captain Sylvester Brown and came to the Port Philip district with his master. Sylvester's son, Thomas, travelled to the Western District in 1844 and took Thomas and his wife. Mary with him. Thomas Browne later wrote novels under the name of Rolf Boldrewood . In his book " Old Melbourne Memories " Thomas Pye is given the name Joe Burge. Thomas Browne established the property "Squattlesea Mere" and Thomas Pye and his family settled in Port Fairy and then in Bessiebelle. Today this little settlement has many Pye descendants. The other matter of interest is that Thomas Pye's son,Charles Pye, gained the Victoria Cross in India and is buried at Tower Hill. his DVD is of historical interest because it records the story of the Pye family in the Western District.This is a DVD with blue hand writing on the front and an accompanying sheet of paper showing an English country scene. The Answer is a newsletter in magazine format that is sent to the widows that are helped by Melbourne Legacy. For the widows who are sight impaired a copy of the newsletter is audio described onto CD by Vision Australia and posted to them. It contains information about meetings and activities. This edition contained articles on Prince Philip and his involvement with Legacy. Also Legacy's role in building the Shrine of Remembrance. An article outlining how our archive project led to the chance reconnection of a long lost diary to the family of Priscilla Wardle - a World War 1 nurse. An article on Youth Programs and camps. Legacy Week 2021 was again held in lockdown conditions in Victoria so there was a emphasis on a Legacy Teddy Bear Picnic and Legacy Bear Hunt. Other virtual fundraisers were 'Battle of the Bases' and 'Lunge for Legacy'. The Album was compiled by Nancy McHaffie late 1990's, with the assistance of Edith Jeffery's, with her book "Garden of Memories" and extensive knowledge of Phillip Island. The Cemetery lies back from the road and is surrounded by Manna Gums, rare Peppermint Gums, Blackwoods and other native trees. In all 25 acres of land were set aside as Crown Land in the land settlement of 1868. There are 6.2 acres of wetlands near the cemetery entrance.4 photographs relating to the McHaffie family. 466-15 & 466-16: Noel Wemyss & Vernon Suter Wemyss McHaffie were grandchildren of the first permanent European Settlers of Phillip Island (John David & Georgianna McHarrie who leased the whole Island as a sheep and cattle run for 45 years until Closer Settlement in 1868 reduced their holding to 640 acres and who are buried at the St. Kilda Cemetery, Melbourne).
