Wilfred Clarence Busse was born in Chiltern, Victoria in 1898. Busse attended secondary school at Wesley College before graduating and studying law at the University of Melbourne. After graduating from University, Busse went on to become a barrister, often in the chambers of Sir Leo Finn Bernard Cussen a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria. Busse was also a fictional writer seen by his novels "The Blue Beyond; A Romance of the Early Days in South Eastern Australia" was written in 1928 and published in 1930 and "The Golden Plague: A Romance of the Early Fifties" written in 1930. "The Golden Plague: A Romance of the Early Fifties" won the T.E.Role gold medal for the best historical novel published that year and went on to become a best seller. Busse wrote a series of articles for "The Federal Standard" newspaper in Chiltern, about the history of Chiltern. Wilfred Clarence Busse was a member of the Chiltern Athenaeum upon his death in 1960. Clara Jane Busse was born in 1870 and was married to William Friedrich Busse. She was the mother of Wilfred Clarence Busse. She survived her son Wilfred by 8 years and died on the 15th of September 1968This memorial card is important to Chiltern Athenaeum as it is of a resident who spent many years in the region before being buried in a cemetery in Indigo Shire. According to the paper label "Over 300 Legatees participated in the ANZAC Day march commemorating Legacy's 70th Anniversary." The photo shows the Legatees marching along St Kilda Road past the Melbourne Concert Hall. (See also 00754, 00755, 00788). Some of these photos were published in the May edition of The Answer. The article mentioned that the Anzac Day Commemoration Council allowed Legacy to march as a contingent because of Legacy's 70th Anniversary. President John Stevenson led the contingent of over 300 Legatees. All of the marchers received a sprig of rosemary as a gift from Legacy (and thanks to the widows that prepared them). The core memory of this calculator was a #D metal box. The pin must have been attached to a card reader or keyboard to enter the programme. According to Sharp’s serial numbering scheme, which encodes the month and year of manufacture of their electronic calculators at least through the mid-1970’s, this calculator was manufactured in September 1969. The technology used in the Memorizer 30/Memorizer 60 was very typical of that of the late 1960s, with small-scale integrated circuits containing a few gates or flip-flops, and a magnetic core memory array for storing the program steps that the user keyed in using the calculator attached to the device. The Model CSA-12, called the "Memorizer 60", was an accessory that could be connected to a Sharp Compet 22 or Compet 32 electronic calculator to allow these machines to be "learn mode" programmed. Programs were "learned" from the keyboard of the calculator, and stored within a core memory array in the Memorizer 60. Programs of up to 60 steps could be stored. Wilhelm Martin Koska (1873-1937) was born in Germany and came to Australia in 1898. Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans died on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob's endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today.This item is significant because it documents actions taken by the Falls Creek Tourist Area Management Committee in their role overseeing the Tourist Area.A circular from the Management Committee prior to the 1970 season. The official season opening time was to be midday on 12th June 1970. Clubs were asked to register their race dates for the season. A wide range of information covered topics including: slope improvements; Village expansion with 20 new sites available: a new reception centre and the upgrade of the sewage treatment system to cater for 3,000 bed capacity. The CRB was widening the road between Howmans Gap and Falls Creek. Consideration was also being given to new tows and chairlift. Prices for tows and Ski School for the upcoming season were included. A detailed Financial Report was included. Photos of an Army Logistic Command Lake Relay with Legacy being the beneficiary of the proceeds raised totally $21,000. The accompanying label explains it is an annual sporting event on the defence calendar. It was held at Albert Park Lake on 27 September 1995. Legatee President David Millie, attended the event and collected the 'small' cheque on Legacy's behalf. The label also says "Our warm thanks to the Army Logistics Command Lake Relay Committee members and all the sponsors." Ron Barassi also attended the event. Ron was a great ambassador for Legacy for many years. The Beeches Rainforest Walk is a loop that starts at Taggerty Cascades before winding through Myrtle Beech and Mountain Ash woodland and is one of the many walking tracks in and around Marysville. It is accessible from Lady Talbot Drive which is a 24 kilometer scenic rainforest car journey which passes a number of walks and waterfalls in the Yarra Ranges National Park. Lady Talbot Drive is named after Lady Sarah Elizabeth, the wife of Sir Reginald Talbot, who was the Governor of Victoria from 25th April, 1904 to 6th July 1908. Lt-Colonel J.H.P. Eller was the second President of the Melbourne Legacy Club and followed H.E Cohen, the Foundation President. Eller's year of office was devoted chiefly to the consolidation of membership and is notable as a period when new ideas regarding the Club's future began to be entertained. The principle of "Preference to Returned Soldiers" and finding employment for them was no longer so important and it was recognised that a wider meaning might be given to the term "Legacy" by the undertaking of active work amongst the children of deceased soldiers. Miss Roberts: Our Senior Mistress, Miss Ethel P. Roberts, having been in the teaching service for forty-three years retired on September 14th this year. She had been senior mistress at our School since its foundation eight years ago. The Head Prefects, Faye Davis and Alex Suvoltos presented her with a sheath of flowers and a portable radio on behalf of the pupils as a token of our appreciation of her loyalty and devotion to the School. The staff, on the previous eveing had honoured Miss Roberts at a dinner held at the George Hotel. In her farewell speech to the pupils, Miss Roberts traced the history of the School to the present day and gave special mention and thanks to the Prefects and all others who had gone the "Biblical" second mile to help her and the School.miss roberts, ballarat east high school, ethel roberts, faye davis, alex suvoltos
