Handmade book with light green covers made from a cut file holder with brown paper glued on the inside, containing 39 typed (original) sheets of paper giving Instructions or Rules to Motormen. Has five page index, then 34 pages, with 104 rules or instructions, covering Tramcar Equipment (electrical), location of faults, tramcar braking, failure of the mechanical brakes, tramcar emergency braking, automatic braking, automatic electric signals and general instructions for Ballarat. The brown paper appears to have been placed on the outside, as it is cut and glued on the inside of the book. Individual sheets held into the book with a metal clip. On the rear of the book, a small piece of cardboard has been glued over the back of the metal strip. Notes mentions bogie trams, so therefore post 1945. Gives details of route electric signals, use of doors on the trams relevant to the central median strip. On page 4, has hand drawn diagram showing the motors in series and parallel. On page 8 has a hand drawn diagram showing the car lighting circuit arrangements. Has been folded in the middle so as to store in pockets of a coat. Historically significant for at the time it demonstrated aspects of the evolution of Ballarat Tramways and yields information about the formation of the tramways, the Councils viewpoint and has a strong association with the Mayor of the time.Twenty two page book, produced by photocopying, side stapled and bound with a red plastic binding, titled "Mayor's Special Report Ballarat Tramways", dated 20 September 1971 for presentation to the City of Ballaarat Council Meeting 27 Sept. 1971 and signed by the Mayor, J.A.Chisholm. Note pages 18 and 19 have been reversed. Comprises: Page 1 - map (image 1829i1) - of Ballarat (Ballaarat) showing the horse tram routes in red (appear to have been drawn in with a red pencil). On of a class of 120 trams built at Preston Workshops between 1939 and 1951. Third tram to be converted to a Colonial Tramcar Restaurant Tram. Of the six trams converted, the only former Melbourne Restaurant tram in use currently (March 2019), trams 4, 5, and 6 having been withdrawn during October 2018.Four motor bogie tram - ex Melbourne - tram No. 939 - One of a class of 120 trams built at Preston Workshops between 1939 and 1951. Third tram to be converted to a Colonial Tramcar Restaurant Tram. Of the six trams converted, the only former Melbourne Restaurant tram in use currently (March 2019), trams 4, 5, and 6 having been withdrawn during October 2018. The tram was built by the MMTB as No. 939 in 1948 at Preston Workshops as a standard SW6 tramcar. It was resident for most of its life at Camberwell, Kew and South Melbourne depots and finally Southbank depot. Heavily rebuilt internally to give a flat floor, air-conditioned, 240V and 24V systems fitted along with changes to bulkheads and position of the passenger door and a goods door in 1994. The tram was converted into Melbourne Restaurant tram No. 3 in 1994/95, being launched on 8-2-1995. While in the later part of its use by the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant Co, it was named “Valentine” during July 2008. It was withdrawn from service in May 2012, when it was replaced by No. 935 (Restaurant No. 6). In August 2014, the Museum received a grant from the Victorian Government of $40,000 to refurbish tram – part of the Transport Investing in Regions Program. The tram was relocated to the Ballarat depot on 29/10/2014. Refurbishment work was completed during March 2016 and the tram was formally launched on 5/4/2016.. The tram is named after Sir Henry Cuthberts (1829 - 1907), the first Chairman of the Ballaarat Tramway Co (the horse tram operator). Sir Henry was a Ballarat based solicitor, member of the Legislative Council, Knighted in 1897 and strong supporter of many Ballarat institutions. Black and white photograph of VR tramcar 42 at Elwood Depot in St Kilda St. VR tramcar 42 built at VR Newport Workshops as one of 4 air brake equipped bogie drop centre trams (40-43) and entered service at Elwood Depot in 1923. Operated by VR on the St Kilda to Brighton broad-gauge line until it was scrapped in 1957. Tramcar 42 operated the last service on the Brighton Beach to Park Street Middle Brighton, on 1 January 1956. Tram has the destination of St Kilda Station. White cardboard mount, 35mm slide, from the Association of Railway Enthusiast's film strip titled "Provincial Tramway Film Strip" of Ballarat Trams bogie No. 35 and four single truck cars in the storage loop, or City Loop at the east end of Sturt St. No. 35 has a "Bray Raceway Trotting Friday Night" on the front of the tram. The film strip notes (Reg.
