Black and white photograph of Sturt St. Ballarat, east end, taken from a Grenville St. building looking west. Shows two ESCo trams, possibly No. 11 eastbound and 17?, westbound. Street track looks new, flags on many buildings in photo, good view of buildings on the West side of the street. Has caption "Sturt Street, Ballarat" top right hand corner and number "300,975(JW), bottom right hand corner. Photo mounted on black faced cardboard for display purposes. Certificate, City of Ballaarat, "Public Inoculation Depot / Pneumonic Influenza", 1919
Certificate contained within Reg. Item 2526, page 8 titled "Public Inoculation Depot / Pneumonic Influenza". Printed form on paper with perforated left hand edge, to record the H.P. James of ESCo had received the two injections for the Spanish Influenza outbreak of 1919. Formed signed by Geo. F. Morton as Acting Town Clerk. Has been stamped that the second injection had been received. The required date for the 2nd injection was 4/2/1919. H.P. James refers to the outbreak in the item on the retirement of Bob Haines (Reg. Item 2529), and notes he was the "Dispenser-Inspector" of two quinine powders to each man and that they had to wear gauze masks. S Note Item Not formally Numbered. Printed colour postcard of an ESCo tram west bound at the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard St. Ballarat, c1905. Has a number of horse drawn vehicles and pedestrians in the picture. Taken from the Post Office tower looking south west, with buildings on the south side of Sturt St., west of Lydiard St in the view. Has the Robert Burns statue in the bottom left hand corner. Titled "Sturt Street, Ballarat" along the bottom edge. On rear of postcard are the words "Post Card", and guidance where the message may be written and space for the address. In the stamp section, details for Inland 1/2d stamp needed, and for Foreign 1d. B&W photograph of the one of the ESCo California Combination tramcars at the time of the opening of the service, photographed most likely in Wendouree Parade, near the dept. Shows bracket arm in background, trolley pole and head. Also shows the nature of the road surface at the time, c1905. The print for this photograph made from a copy negative of page 454 of the Australasian, August 19, 1905 in 1993. Print includes caption "ORDINARY CAR, WITH CLOSED CENTRE AND OPEN ENDS" See Reg. Item No. 763. Photo has been mounted onto a styrene card with card sides and Velcro strips on the top edge for display purposes. Black and white (slightly sepia toned) photo of ESCo No. 8 - side on view of tram. Has Driver standing by front of tram, a person, possibly conductor standing by rear, though tram set up for one man operation. Good detailed side view of tram, showing arrangements of blinds, seats etc. Has "Suttons Pianos" advertisement on side and "Pictures Coliseum tonight" ad on the inside middle window. Tram has been converted to have windscreens. Three ladies on the front seat section of the tramcar. Date unknown. Post 1912. Tram still has magnetic brakes. Mounted black and white photograph of 19 uniformed ESCo employees and two or three non-uniformed employees in front of the Australian Tramway Employees Association (Employees) Banner possibly at the time of a Union or Labor Day Parade, Ballarat. Photograph 145H x 189W. The banner contains a painted image of Prahran and Malvern Municipal Tramways, (PMTT) C class No. 30. Date - 1914? Image 1 of the photograph and part of the mounting. Mounting is an embossed cardboard with a raised border and different filigree on either side of the boarder. Cardboard has a light grey colour finish. On the bottom right hand side is the photographers name "T.C. Owen, 609 Sturt St. Ballarat". Image 2 - mounting and photograph showing general condition of the mounting. Magazine cutting contained within Reg. Item 2488, page 31, titled "History of the Ballarat Tramways" from the Feb. 1939 issue of the "SEC Magazine". Report on a recent paper by H.P. James to the Historical Society about the experimental battery tram in Ballarat in October 1888. Notes that Duncan and Fraser input into the Julien Battery experiment, Mr. Bullimore the electrician and trails and problems with the track. Also has notes regarding tramways in Ballarat East Township. Accompanying the item are handwritten notes about the tramcar used and its fate. Printed colour postcard of the east end of Sturt St. from top of the Nichol and Allen Building in Grenville St looking west. Titled "Sturt St Ballarat" in the top left-hand corner. Has three ESCo trams in the image, at the east end of Sturt St. In the bottom left-hand corner is the number "300477" and the initials "JV" within a circle. A 2d Australian stamp, cancelled with the postmark "Burnie Tas 21Ap 34" is in the top centre of the postcard. Image taken early in the days of the Ballarat electric trams, with no windows and no rooftop destinations. Appears to be the same tram possibly three times - looking at the number on the tram in detail. On the rear of the postcard is the address to a "Mme Helen Ferrando, Sori, Genova Italy" in black handwritten ink, while in the left-hand half of the postcard, typed in light purple ink is "Arthur H. Rubock, 23 Wilmot St., Burnie, Tasmania USCE 23897" (could be US Corps of Engineers) and the postmark of "Sori Genova. / 28.5.34". The printer of the card is "The Valentine & Sons Publishing Co. Original photograph taken by the SECV and a typed caption added "Original Brill Truck Type Rolling Stock (1935), Ballarat Electric Tramways. Blinds on No. 14 have been rolled down. Shows step arrangements and condition of tramcar paintwork. Copy 2 - print made from negative N201. Yields information about Lydiard St north after the opening of the electric tram system.Black and white historic photograph downloaded from a picture resource website within a decorative frame. Printed with an inkjet printer. Titled "Sturt & Lydiard Street intersection, Ballarat circa:." shows two ESCo trams travelling east along the north side of Sturt St, No. 5 or 8? and No. 14 with many people lining the streets, possibly prior to a parade. Photo taken after the tramway has opened as the destination boxes are located on the roof, but prior to the installation of windscreens. Original photo from a postcard - not currently (June 2010) in Museum's collection. Many horse drawn vehicles. Yields information about the early staff of the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria following the electrification of the tramways and their appearance.Laminated Black and white print from a copy negative of a group of ESCO employees (motormen conductors and pointsboys?) in front of the tram depot with tram cars 17, 10 and 2 behind. All wearing uniform hats, but not all wearing full uniform (no badges but wearing ties - possibly temporary or casual staff - c1906 - 51 people. Print from a copy negative (N13), made early 1997 for display purposes and laminated. Has four Velcro dots on rear. Trams have destination boards fitted to the tram above the roof. 2nd copy - unlaminated added 29/7/2007 from Alan Bradley 5/2007. See also related documents for Museum Vic information on their copy. Has a forward by the Chairman of the SEC, Mr. Francis Clements as the first magazine. Published 1 June 1936. Provides news about the SEC itself, personal Notes and Anecdotes on many people including clubs and societies. Includes notes on the late Mr. W. Knox, the ESCO Chief Accountant in Ballarat, the Electricity Supply and Tramways Employees Social club, Bendigo, Geelong, sporting clubs and fund raising for the Children's Hospital.
