Lynne MAKINGs (1950- ) Artist Lynne Makings is an instigator and member of the Soldiers Hill Artist Collective, an eclectic group of artists from all various disciplines, residing within the region of Soldiers Hill, Ballarat. When this work was undertaken Lynne Makings was enrolled in a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Fine Arts) at the Federation University Arts Academy. The work was awarded a Deputy VIce Chancellor's Award, and was acquired from the 'End of Year Exhibition' (EYE).Double sided artwork comprising of numerous Indian Bean Tree seeds (Catalpa Bignoniodes). The seeds have been placed between to sheets of perspex. Artist's Statement: 'continuity by a thread' A loose line and a tight grid Continuity by a thread, [the makings of], represents a body of work exploring the overarching grid that links a fragile thread, the mortal coil, that binds and unites the disparate forces of continual change underpinning human existence. The 1993 Eltham Heritage Tour was enjoyed by a busload of members of the Historical Society on a fine, calm day, Sunday May 23rd. This Shell road map was made as part of the 200 year celebration of Captain James Cook's voyage on the HM Endeavour and the first sighting of Australia at Point Hicks in 1770. The Bicentenary of James Cook in Australia was commemorated in Australia in 1970. The British explorer Lieutenant (later Captain) James Cook sailed and charted the East Coast of Australia in 1770, and claimed the eastern seaboard of the Continent for the British Crown. This was not considered the official bicentenary of Australia, but rather the mapping of the Eastern coastline. Jazmina Cininas’ printmaking practice is best known for its technically demanding reduction linocuts. A two-legged dingo stole Lindy’s tears draws on the complex mythologies and rhetoric that have become embedded in the protracted Lindy Chamberlain saga. The work is a critique of the media’s unfair treatment of Chamberlain when the case broke in the 1980s. This is a key work from Cininas' Girlie Werewolf Project, which explores how female 'otherness' has been depicted through history. Donation by the artist

"My current practice explores and questions ideas about social, cultural and historical inherited gender stereotypes. The images used are sourced from toys, games, models and references to childhood from my own collection. One such toy is a model plane of the Enola Gay. This screenprint, sourced from the box, shows an image of young boy happily clutching his toy plane. The surface of the print is embossed with images of the nuclear weapon that was dropped on Hiroshima."Darren BRYANT ( 06/06/1971- ) Born Lismore, New South Wales Darren’s work explores the familiar landscapes of childhood, identity and the everyday.
