Miss Emily Dixon acted as Ladies Habour Lights Guild Work-Secretary and later, as Secretary of the Malvern Branch and continued to work for the group until her death. Miss Fanny Dixon worked as the Mission's organist and Committee member as well as friend. The plaque was unveiled by Mrs. Holmes on December 5th, 1943 and was dedicated by the Chaplain. Rectangular white stone plaque surrounded by two frames. The construction on Lake Kerferd began in 1862 however it wasn't completed until 1874 due to engineering and funding issues. The lake was named after George Briscoe Kerferd (1831–1889) who was responsible for Beechworth's water scheme. George Briscoe Kerferd was born on 21 January 1831 in Liverpool, England and arrived in Melbourne April 1853. He spent his first years in Australia in Bendigo before settling down in Beechworth as a wine and spirits merchant. He married Ann Martindale on 17th December 1853 at St James Cathedral, Melbourne and between them they had three sons and five daughters. Kerferd began his political and legal career in Beechworth when he was first elected to the Municipal Council in May 1857. Later he would be elected to the Legislative Assembly for the Ovens District in November 1864, and continued to represent the area until February 1886. The postcard holds Historic significance due to its connection to Beechworth and its Lake Kerford. It demonstrates the interactions between nature and colonialists, especially how the lake has somewhat been 'protected' with the man made fencing. The image was featured in an article printed in 1952 profiling the lonely lot of the seaman ashore and the activities at the Mission to Seafarers. The actual clipping is adhered to a page of a "Snapshot" album of photographs and clippings donated by Sadie Wilson (c. 2002), a member of the Harbour Lights guild member. This Beco lamp is attached to Penleigh's wardrobe and lights the sink and mirror area. It waslamp was designed by Donald Brown, a pre-eminent Australian lighting designer in the '50s and '60s. Robin Boyd often specified BECO lighting, including elsewhere in his own home. The slush lamp is thought to have been used for examining and oiling train engines.The slush lamp has local significance as it was donated by a resident of Wodonga. It also has historic significance as an example of an object made by upcycling in the c. late 19th century and early 20th century.The slush lamp consistis of a rectangular grey metal body with soldered edges with a flat handle at one end, a fibrous textile wick protruding from a long spout at the other end, and a cork inserted in the opening on the top surface to secure the fuel used.
