In 1888 a company was formed to acquire and subdivide the land of the Mountjoy Brothers. The land totaled 197 acres and included Erskine House. The land colored red was that of the Mountjoys. The subdivision map was printed in 1889A paper map of the Mountjoy Estate Lorne , showing allotments, with their owners, and naming land use. It has four black and white line drawings , Erskine House, Mountain View’s, the Rapids, Erskine House sea view and Erskine Falls. The map is largely black and white with red and blue colouring. Ferdinand von Mueller was an examiner of botany at the Ballarat School of Mines (SMB) between 1880 and 1888. During that era he was active in donating related items to the School. When the Ballarat School of Mines Council agreed to introduce pharmacy and botany classes in 1879, it was apparent students would require access to botanical specimens in order to further their studies. Council members, who were inspired by the work of Baron Ferdinand von Mueller, authorised development of an area along the School's northern boundary, fronting Lydiard Street South, and oversaw the establishment of the new Botanical Gardens. Baron von Mueller took a practical role the development of SMB's Botanical Gardens from the beginning. He became a generous benefactor who 'donated collections of seeds and leguminous fodder plants, including valued grasses of interest and use to agriculturalists and graziers generally' to SMB over many years. The Orient Steam Navigation Company Limited launched the Ocean Liner RMS Orion in 1934 and it remained in operation until 1963. The twin screw steamship was built to carry first class and tourist class passengers, over 1100 in all, plus almost 500 crew from Europe to Australia in comfort. The ship had a single funnel and a single mast. During WWII the vessel served as a troop carrier. The ventilation system noted on the plan, Punkah Louvre System, was designed for heating fresh air ventilation in buildings, ships and railroads. The system originated from Thermotank in Glasgow, Scotland. The ship plan for the RMS Orion is significant for its connection with the vessel. The ship was a leader, with several 'firsts'; the first Orient Line ship to be built with a single funnel since 1902, and the first to be painted in the Orient Line's livery, with a corn-coloured hull. It was the first liner to use chromium and bakelite materials for the surfaces throughout the ship, which provided greater resistance to the sea. It was also the first British ship to be fitted with air conditioning.Plan: printed provisional line drawing of the Orient line vessel "R.M.S. Orion". Inscriptions are printed on the plan. There are diagrams of six decks included in the plan. The ship is built for tourist "B" accommodation. The plan's Notices include details of the cabins including wardrobes, drawers, hinged seats, mattresses and bunk numbers. This framed drawing depicts a small vessel wrecked on the shore, resting on rocks, with sea in the background. The artist, Norm Cooper, created the drawing in 1976. He was a well-liked and respected local artist and surfer. The picture was framed in Warrnambool by Stuart Prince in the 1980s. Norm Cooper passed away in 1988. The Southwest Boardriders inaugural Norm Cooper Memorial contest, the 'Normie' , was held in 2015 in his honour, "celebrating the legacy of one of the region's most legendary surfers" (a quote from the Southwest Boardriders). The name of the vessel in the drawing, '726 Willpower', may represent one of several yachts that have the name 'Willpower'. The framer, Stuart Prince Picture Framing, was a local business, Prince was one of the owners of the Henna Street Picture Framers at 74 Henna Street, Warrnambool.
