The Australian Tramway Employees Association commissioned in 1915, a banner for use in marches or events. It was painted in 1916 by George Grant with its first public appearance at the Eight-Hour Day Diamond Jubilee on 10 April 1916, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the introduction of an eight-hour working day in Victoria. The reference gives a detailed history of the banner, it significance and the background to its painting. It is now held in the collection of Museums Victoria. The ATEA was the forerunner to the Australian Tramway and Motor Omnibus Employees' Association, now part of the Rail Tram and Bus Union. The house was variously known as ‘Mintaro’, ‘Montiere’ and ‘Goonoo Goonoo’, the later after 1920 when it was purchased by Natale Cerini and his wife Ethel May (nee Swan), who were married in 1918. Built 1887-1888 by William Wigley. The original colour was deep cream with dark green trim. Property included a block of land on south side and also land to the north. The original coach house was on what became 213 Union Road and was used to build a yacht in by the then neighbours, the Flemings. The street plane trees were replaced in the 1970s with melaleucas and in 1987 new plane trees were planted between the melaleucas. Shows street surface, bluestone kerbing, a young tree within a guard and a Victorian style home with 3 chimneys, a slate roof and a veranda on at least the south and west side. Beyond the house are mature cypress and other trees and a spire. The 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was raised in 1920 as part of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, Citizen Military Forces, with Headquarters at Seymour and depots along the Goulburn Valley from Mansfield to Tocumwal in southern NSW. In December 1941, 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 20th Motor Regiment. In 1943 redesignated 20th Pioneer Battalion and deployed to Merauke, Dutch New Guinea. The regiment was disbanded at the end of the war, 1945. 20th Light horse was the only light horse unit to serve overseas in WWII. Medlow was built in 1889 for Col Cairncross and named 'Willcyrus' after his sons William and Cyril. The Cairncross family was responsible for the planting of many of the trees, some sourced from Canada by one of the Cairncross sons. The date is approximate. The Bull family lived at 'Medlow' at 42 Warrigal Road, Surrey Hills from 1911. Dr Richard Bull graduated MD, BS in 1904. He was a lecturer in bacteriology during WW1 and developed typhoid vaccines. He was President of the British Medical Association (BMA), forerunner to the AMA, in 1926. Dr Bull's wife Catherine (nee Perrier) was a lover and patron of music and the arts. Their daughter Norma was a well-known artist. Mrs Bull was a great lover of music and the arts and made 'Medlow' available for the advance of these causes.
