Taken in January 1982; very similar to SHP0635. Surrey Family Hotel (McNeill's Family Hotel) was built in 1888 by Alexander McNeill. It closed as a hotel after the Local Option vote in 1920. Vic Dartnell joined his cousin Percy Cathcart in a pharmacy on the opposite corner in 1936 and moved it to this corner in 1940. His son John followed as the pharmacist and then his daughter Amanda. After the Dartnell family sold the business, the pharmacy continued in a similar manner as a compounding pharmacy and retained 'Dartnell' in its name. This collection was compiled and donated by a veteran who saw overseas active service in a post-Vietnam conflict. While an inmate of the Coral-Balmoral Building at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in Melbourne, 2025, he met with the President of the Vietnam Veterans Association (Vic) and explained to him that during his early Army career, he had been deeply influenced by Vietnam veterans, who had taught him life-skills and given him a sense of direction lacking in his upbringing. He created this piece to honour those Vietnam Veterans.Large black frame with khaki matt board. A black bayonet in the centre is set over a gold wreath reflective of the Royal Australian Regiment emblem. Set in a circle around that are 17 circular medallions. Beneath that is line of 5 more medallions. This postcard shows a display of posters and educational materials relating to health education taught at the Pathfinder school, created by local professional Mary NormanBail. This is one of a collection of several hundred photos, books, documents and teaching aids donated to Langi Morgala Museum by Jessica Norman-Bail (or by her estate). Almost all the collection relates to Jessica's mother, the photographer, artist and educator Mary Norman-Bail, and to Mary Norman-Bail's Pathfinder School, which was located in Ararat for several years in the first half of the twentieth century. When the Commonwealth Post and Telegraph Act was passed in June 1902, and a national Postmaster General's Department (the PMG) was established and the responsibility for the nation's mail and telephone services fell on Post Offices. The Bendigo Post Office, built in 1887 and situated on Pall Mall was the central distribution centre for receiving and delivering telegrams and continued to deliver communication and postal services until 1997. standard style of a jacket battle dress from the late 1940s to 1982; it was used for parade dress; this jacket was worn by a warrant officer class 2 of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.This jacket has historical significance because it representative of a standard style service battle dress worn by soldiers of the Australian Army Post WW2 until the introduction of the modern polyester cotton uniforms. It is also in excellent condition, which is special considering it's age.
