A guide to help Legatees understand their responsibilities. These handbooks are updated periodically. Also known and the Contactors Handbook. A handbook is issued to all Legatees to assist them with their work with the legacy widows; eg childrens' education, welfare, accommodation, health. A quick easy guide to services provided by Melbourne Legacy such as bursaries, medical care, financial assistance etc for Legatees use. It was reissued annually for many years prior to keeping this information electronically. Many issues are held at 00002 and 00305. The information would be typed or handwritten, then posted and delivered to Legacy Melbourne, Legatees or widows and families. Types of form include 'First Contact Form' to record the details of the families. Also printed cards for noting dental appointments. A typical letter that is sent to the widow on Legacy receiving news of the death of an ex-serviceman. Demonstrate framing of photographs.Framed Black and white photograph, mounted (partly loose) onto heavy card of the SEC Ballarat tram crews shortly before the closure of the tramway system in front of the depot building with three tramcars behind. Has a printed list of all employees or staff underneath. Titled "Ballarat Tramways Employees 1971". Frame - wooden, red stained wood with a painted gold coloured frame, glazed, with a cut cardboard piece on stippled paper. Photo of ESCo cross bench tram No. 20 and ESCo 2 at the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard Streets, with the Post Office, along with the Summerscales offices, Robbie Burns statue, Vita Studio, and George Payne Jewellers in the background. The conductor on the rear of No. 2 is holding the trolley rope, while the driver of No. 20 is watching the road closely. The conductor of the tram is reboarding or about to alight. No. 20 has the destination of Gardens via Convent. Other trams are in the background. Wal has dated the photograph about 1909. Note the point frog or pan in the overhead above No. 20 and in particular notes the type of destination box and that the tram is going to the Gardens via the Convent. Coloured image of the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard Streets looking north along Lydiard St. North giving a high view of the Post Office building with its tower. Has an ESCo tram southbound in Lydiard St North, a motor car and several horse-drawn vehicles. Shows the verandahs along Lydiard St, centre poles, and looks towards a rather desolate Black Hill following extensive mining works. The Post Office time ball is in the down position. Possibly c1910. Summerscales building - photographer, postcards is next door to the Post Office in Sturt St. On the rear is a handwritten note from Wal Jack to Ken Magor about the tram in the photo, the time ball on the post office flagstaff, Railway station tower to the left of the Post Office, carriage sheds in the long building behind the oval type roof of old mining exchange. 1019.1 and 1019.2 - Black and white photograph of SEC Tram 14 involved with a collision with a Ford truck during 1939 on the corner of Drummond St. North and Webster St. Ford truck registration 277.745 . Both vehicles have windows smashed and other damage. Tram painted in 1930's colour scheme with a small "Pay as You Enter" sign adjacent to the open door. Known to be SEC photos originally. See SEC Photo collection item. Was reprinted in the Ballarat News during the early to mid 1980's. Other photos of this accident gave close up details of lining used in the tram paint scheme. This was used as the basis of lining done on No. 27. The tramcar body card shows it was repaired following an accident June 1939. (Note added 2-2-19). Photocopy made 4/1999 for display purposes. ESCo 9 has been modified (See Kings Bendigo Tramways p54). Sprinkler car has trolley pole facing Golden Square, as has No. 9. Pole by the trams have signs "ALL CARS STOP HERE" and a "NO ROAD" sign. Original photograph taken by the SECV and a typed caption added "No. 1 Car - showing broken roof (1935), Ballarat Electric Tramways". Elevated photo, showing the nature of the broken roof, trolley pole and some interior details. B&W photograph mounted onto heavy cardboard (black front, green back) of a horse tram (No. 16 - from Reg Item 2726) travelling westbound on Sturt St. on the north side, with Town Hall in background. Many horse drawn cabs are waiting along side the centre median strip on the north side, and the back of one cab on the Lydiard St. kerb. A number of women on the top deck. "Typed caption on photo" "Tram going up North Side of Sturt Street 1897, Note Cab Stand." Photo is believed to be from a copy negative of an original held in the collection of the Ballarat Historical Society. Also has drawing pit marks in corners on photograph. On rear of photo has two Velcro dots and remains on tape from brown mounting tape use. For original print of photograph, see Reg. Black and white photograph of MMTB SW6 850 probably soon after n. Side on photograph of tram. Destination City gives build date 1939 and notes that car was built with a tail light/s, which is visible at the right end of the tram. Has cropping marks in ink on right side of photograph. On rear is a type note (glued on sheet of paper) specifications of the tramcar and car dimensions. Destination City 5th edition gives a view of the tram - 3/4 front on showing the tail light arrangement - p41. Also on rear is "Sutcliffe Pty Ltd, Commercial Photographers 94 Elizabeth St. Melbourne, Cent 1500" stamp in light blue ink. and date stamp of print - "12 Jan 1946".
