The nearer wagon was the first coach on the mountain which had belonged to Briarty. The small cart was Dodd’s meat cutting cart. The elm trees are in the centre of the picture and above them is Price’s sign advertising their shop and newsagency. The big house is “Mountjoy” burnt 1975. Walker’s house is among the big trees left centre. Boy at horse’s head is Fred Jeeves. Boy on sledge is Theo Hand. The horse is “Blossom”. This notebook has been used in the Nullawarre Post Office in the mid 1900s. It lists the telephone exchange codes of places in Victoria and also the code for the telephone charges to those places. Charles and Vida Williams were the Post Master and Post Mistress at Nullawarre Post Office during the mid 20th century years. Nullawarre is a small settlement 25 kilometres south east of Warrnambool and is mainly an agricultural area. European settlement first occurred in the late 1860s. This notebook is of some interest as one used in the day-to-day business of the Nullawarre Post Office in the mid 20th century.This is a notebook which was originally set up as a Postman’s Redirection Book but has been used to list alphabetically telephone exchange areas and their codes. The book has an alphabetical index on the side of the pages and printed black lines and hand-ruled lines on the pages. The cover is light brown with blue binding on the spine and the binding is partly giving way. There is black printing and handwritten writing on the front cover. The material on the pages is handwritten in blue ink and pencil. This tin matchbox was manufactured as a souvenir to commemorate the centenary of European settlement of Melbourne and Victoria in 1934-35. This celebration was important as a sign of better times after the 1930 Depression.This is an every-day souvenir item which can be linked to a significant celebration in Victoria. A souvenir matchbox holder made of tin with paper labels. It is U-shaped with transfer images whcih have a cellulose acetate coating. John Lundy-Clarke grew up in the Kalorama/Mt Dandenong area and later in life (1972-74) began to write a comprehensive history of the district working from an original settlement map in an effort to cover all areas. Edward John Price (1898 - 1974) was the son of early settlers on Lot 1 of the Village Settlement Edward Joseph Price and Annie (nee Ross) Price. He was the brother of Charles and Kathleen Price.
