Murray Comrie Collection. The Memorial was first unveiled at a Thanksgiving Service in 1918. It now commemorates Tarnagulla residents who served in WWI and WWII. This stone monument was created and erected by Mr. Barber of Dunolly in October 1919. It was unveiled by Brigadier General Brand C.B. C.M.G. D.S.O. at 2:30pm on Saturday November 8th, 1919. The Welcome Home Committee, formed 2nd July 1917, was largely responsible for commissioning the monument. Foundation members were Mrs. B. Patterson, Mrs J. Bock and the Misses P. Lemin, Violet Radnell, D. Dyer and Doris and Phoebe Bock. The Committee also arranged 'Welcome Home' functions for each local soldier returning home after service in the First World War. Dr Michael Hodgson was apppointed ANZCA President in 1992 until 1993. The painting, undertaken in 1995, was later unveiled in 1996 with Dr. Hodgson present. The Ballarat Cenotaph commemorates those who died in service or were killed in action in WWI and WWI. The cenotaph was unveiled by the Governor, Sir Dallas Brooks on the 24th November 1949 in front of a crowd estimated to be between 3000 and 4000 people. Miss Emily Dixon acted as Ladies Habour Lights Guild Work-Secretary and later, as Secretary of the Malvern Branch and continued to work for the group until her death. Miss Fanny Dixon worked as the Mission's organist and Committee member as well as friend. The plaque was unveiled by Mrs. Holmes on December 5th, 1943 and was dedicated by the Chaplain. The Hon. Nathaniel Levi (1830-1908) was the first Jewish Member of the Parliament of Victoria. He served in the Legislative Assembly from 1861-1867, representing the electorates of Maryborough (1 Jan 1861 - 1 Dec 1865) and East Melbourne (1 Feb 1866 - 1 Dec 1867). He later served in the Legislative Council for the North Yarra electorate (1 Sep 1872 - 1 Jan 1904). Born in Liverpool on 20 Jan 1830, he arrived in Melbourne in April 1854 on the Matilda Wattenbach, opened a store and established a career as a businessman. In 1858 he joined the firm of John Levey & Son, Melbourne and Maryborough. He pioneered the coal and sugar beet industries; established the firm of Nathaniel Levi & Company c1867; commenced auctioneering and agency business c1870; obtained contract for railway advertising c1875; with his two sons (Joseph and John) as partners, the firm became Nathaniel Levi & Sons c1884. He commenced a short-lived newspaper, the Daily News, in Oct 1885. He was a founder and trustee of the Chamber of Manufactures, and its President 1893-1895. He married Sarah Levy in 1855. Nathaniel Levi was prominent in the Jewish community and was President of the Melbourne Hebrew Congregation in 1880–82 and 1904–05. This window, in memory of Captain Robert Sunter, was unveiled on the 14 February 1936 performed by Mr R. H. Martin, chief officer of the Manunda. The funds were raised by the crew of the ship Manunda. Thomas Stoddart was a miner turned local stockbroker. He bought 12 statues made of Carrara marble during a visit to Italy in 1882, and gifted them to the Ballarat Botanical Gardens. The sculptures were placed on pedestals of Sicilian marble and on bases of Victorian granite. Notice of the unveiling of the Edward O'Donnell Memorial Fountain on 18 August 1935 at Edward O'Donnell Gardens. Invitation to the unveiling of Edward O'Donnell fountain in the O'Donnell Gardens, St Kilda, at 3pm on 18 August 1935. Edward O'Donnell was a St Kilda Councillor and businessman who was elected to the St Kilda Council in 1888 and served continuously for 44 years. During that time he was mayor on six separate occasions, including the war years. Following his death in 1933, a fountain was commissioned to perpetuate his memory in the centre of the gardens that had, by then, already started to be known by his name. The fountain was designed and built at a cost of £750 by Modern Art Co. Pty. Ltd. Of the art deco style, it is 4.5 metres high and 5 metres in diameter. Dorothy Rogers wrote two major books on Kew's history: Lovely Old Homes of Kew (1961) and A History of Kew (1973). In addition to her published works, she was a regular contributor on issues of local history to suburban newspapers. Her archives are held in the collections of the State Library of Victoria and Kew Historical Society. Professor Kate Leslie was ANZCA President from 2010 - 2012. The portrait was commissioned by ANZCA to mark the presidential term of Professor Kate Leslie and was unveiled at the ANZCA staff Christmas event on the 15 November 2013. The artist, Robert Hannaford, is from South Australia and was a political catoonist. He has a long history of painting portraits of politicians and distinguished professionals in the field.
