Functional object - Letter Opener, Circa 1918
Made by Albert Henry Rogers who served in the British Army during WW1, the grandfather of the donor. It was made as a symbol of hope as receiving letters from home gave them hope. Hence the bullet made into a letter opener is a symbol of something made to kill into something to give hope. (Transcribed from the donor's description)Small letter opener consisting of a handle made from a .303 bullet and a blade made from an unknown metal. The projectile has been split in half lengthways and the blade soldered in. The markings on the cartridge indicate that it is a Mk VII cartridge manufactured by the Royal Laboratory in 1917.Both sides of the blade have decorative engraving on them. The left side has "ARRAS" engraved on it and the right side has "1918 YPRES" engraved on it. The base of the cartridge is marked R^L 17 and VII.ypres, arras, world war 1 -

The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. This style of jumper has a long history in the Royal Australian Navy, descending from the uniform style of the 19th century Royal Navy.Navy blue long sleeved, heavy-weight jumper with square rig collar. On left sleeve is an embroidered patch with the word "AUSTRALIA," underneath which is an anchor insignia and three downward pointing chevrons in gold embroidery thread. On right sleeve is an embroidered patch with the word "AUSTRALIA" on the upper shoulder, underneath which is an embroidered gold wheel on a semi-circle shaped patch. The jumper has a deep neckline, tied with a cotton navy tie. Accompanying collar (0036.2) attaches to the jumper via three navy blue plastic buttons at the back of the neck, and three navy blue plastic buttons running down both left and right interior neckline. Fire schools were an important pre-summer program for all Forests Commission staff and crews They were designed as refresher courses for existing staff and training of new staff on how to use pumps and hoses FCV Forest Divisions were made up of separate forest inter-district and competitions were held. CPL Bob Hopper and SPR Bob White presented a Kangaroo Pump, used for feeding sick children to the Director that was purchased with leftover Regimental funds when the unit closed down. This photograph of a charity donation from member of 2 FD Svy Sqn to the Director of the Prince of Wales Childrens Hospital was taken in Sydney in 1989. Students attended Sunday School classes at the Kergunyah Presbyterian Church. Sunday school was held in a little 16 foot square wooden building which came from Rocky Valley after it was no longer needed there. Ewen Wallace's father initiated and organised the move. C2011 the building was knocked down because of white ants. The Presbyterian Church will be 125 years old in 2015Historical: Religious Education: This book was used by students who attended the Sunday School classes at Kergunyah Presbyterian Church. Religion: Presbyterian Church at Kergunyah, in the Kiewa Valley, celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2015 after being handed over to the Uniting Church in the 1970s.Bright blue hard covered book with title at the top and 1st letters decorated and in gold 'M' and 'L' rest of title in red bordered by black. Decorative ribbon crosses the book about midway and also vertically on right 3 quarters from the spine. Bottom left - coloured picture of child and adult. See Brief Desc.Nails and screws from the Ringwood Miner's Cottage, some handmade and dating from 1873. Prior to disassembly in Feb 1975, the cottage was at 367 Maroondah Hwy almost opposite the Civic Centre site. The nails and screws are held in a glass jar which has a metal screw top.; A small piece of Stibnite is also in the jar L 4cm x W 4cm.; A yellow film of oxide (Sb2O3) is on one side.A scrap of paper in the jar has 'Nails, Screws, Miner's Cottage' -

In February 1913 the Ballarat Junior Technical School opened its doors to its 86 pupils. The old bluestone building in the grounds of the Dana Street Primary School became their temporary for eight years. In its early years the school offered only a two-year course. The first year was of a general nature giving a thorough grounding in Mathematics and Instrumental Drawing, and introducing students to the various branches of trade work. The second-year students studied for the Junior Technical Certificate and specialized in a course of their choice - either a trade (Woodwork or Fitting and Turning) or a course leading to higher studies at the School of Mines. The photograph shows the Albert Steane, the first Headmaster, with other members of Staff outside the Dana Street Primary School where the Junior Technical School first began.
