Postcard photograph showing a tree fern gully. The title on the front is Gully "Hospice" Olinda. The Hospice was a guest house built in 1904 by Joseph Gutmann in the Main Street of Olinda. The Dorey Family ran The Hospice from 1908 - 1911. The Hospice burned down in 1924. The reverse of the postcard contains a small section of a letter that must be continued elsewhere. Yields information about Ballarat and Sturt St c1907 following the information of trams.Printed colour postcard of Ballarat electric tram leaving the Grenville St. terminus, at the bottom end of Sturt St terminus with an early motor bus or taxi in front of the tram crossing to the south side of Sturt St. Has buildings on both sides of Sturt St. in photograph, with some other horse drawn vehicles and many pedestrians. Note, none of the buildings have names shown on them - have been printed out. Photo taken soon after opening, no roof mounted destination boxes. On rear are places for correspondences stamp, address and manufacturers' name in a fancy motif "WTP". This is Item 5 of 27 items in the Daisy Vickers collection of World War One memorabilia. These items were sent or given to Daisy Ogier (nee Vickers) during World War One by Corporal Arthur Anderson who enlisted from Warrnambool in 1915 at the age of 21. He served in Egypt and France and returned to Australia in 1919. Daisy Ogier (1907-1987) was a student and then a teacher at Warrnambool Technical School with her early teaching years there from 1925 to 1936 and in 1949. She became the head mistress from 1950 to 1963 and in 1968. She officially retired in 1976. Daisy Vickers was one of the best loved and dedicated teachers that the school ever had. Electoral Roll for the Commonwealth Division of Bendigo, State Assembly District of Bendigo, and State Electoral Province of Bendigo for 1967 (made up to 22nd June 1967). Voting registers, or electoral rolls, are a census of those who were eligible to vote. They are valuable because a country-wide census was not taken until 1911. This is an envelope used in the business of Ludeman Real Estate, Warrnambool. The Director, Bruce Ludeman, had previously been a stock and station agent before establishing his real estate business in Warrnambool in 1985. Bruce Ludeman, a business broker, auctioneer and property manager, is President of the Otway Division of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria and received a Presidents Award in 2012 for services to the real estate industry in the Western District. This envelope is of minor interest as an example of the type of business envelope used today in the real estate businesses in Warrnambool. This is a business-type white envelope with a see-through insert to show the address. It is self-sealing. The name and business address of Ludeman Real Estate is printed at the top left hand corner of the envelope. Silk postcard from France written by unknown WW1 soldier from Milawa addressed to Mrs G Kittle/Kettle c/- Post Office Milawa. WW1 service records reveal Charles James KETTLE 29741 was born in Milawa and enlisted on 15/4/1916 aged 39 years. He embarked on the 3/10/1916 and served in France prior to being diagnosed with a tumour and whilst being repatriated home died on 10/8/1917 and was buried at sea. Listed place of association was Wangaratta. Embroidered silk postcards were first made in 1900 for the Paris Exposition. The popularity of silk postcards peaked during the First World War 1914 - 1918.They were mostly embroidered by French women in their homes and then sent to the factories for cutting and mounting on cards. Many of the cards were illustrated with patriotic symbols, flags, slogans, or sentimental texts.
