Photos of the Lantern Festival workshop held to pull the community together during the battle to save Big Hill from the mining Companies application to have an "Open Pit Mine" in 1998-1999. Sports Clubs in Kew in the final decades of the 19th century and in the early 20th century were often umbrella organisations with facilities for a number of sports. Typically in Kew, this included teams in lawn bowls, tennis and croquet. The Kew Bowling Club was formed in 1880 while the privately owned Auburn Heights Recreation Club was opened in 1904. By 1998, the two Clubs decided to amalgamate at the Auburn Heights site in Barkers Road, forming the Kew Heights Sports Club. The combined club was itself taken over by the Melbourne Cricket Club in 2012 becoming MCC Kew Sports Club. In 2017 MCC Kew closed and its landholding was subsequently sold to Carey Baptist Grammar School. Both the Kew and Auburn Heights Clubs assembled important collections. These historically significant and large collections were donated to the Society in 2020. The photo shows St Kilda Junction, shortly after the introduction of electric trams on temporary track replacing cable trams in St Kilda Road. Cable trams ceased on 26-12-1925 with electric services commencing on Sunday 27-12-1925. There are passengers on the tram. The conductor of W class tram 274 with the destination of Melbourne is holding the pole while it rounds the curve, and in the background is W class tram 386 (St Kilda Beach). A cable tram replacement bus, Reg No. 86053, with the destination of Brighton Rd is passing a policeman on point duty. Various construction equipment and materials can be seen as well as a work gang in St Kilda road, dismantling the cable tram track or constructing new permanent track. Major General C H Brand was born in Ipswich Qld on the 4 September 1873. he fought in both the South African war and WW1. He commanded the 3rd Battalion at Gallipoli and the 6th Brigade in 1915-16 and the 4th Brigade in 1916-18 in France. he retired after 37 years of Service and was elected a senator for the United Party in 1935, stepping down in 1947. The bell was installed in the late 1880s at Myrtleford State School 955, Elgin Street, Myrtleford and rang there until the school relocated to a new site in early 1939. The bell followed the pupils to O'Donnell Avenue, but was dismantled and placed in storage in the 1950s. This bell is tied to the early daily life of state schooling in Elgin Street, from the commencement of the decline of gold mining in the district until immediately before the outbreak of World War 2. It is also related to the daily lives of children who participated in the "consolidation" of state schooling at O'Donnell Avenue and the development of "higher elementary" education.Large complete brass school bell with steel tongue.Inscription: "C. Steel framed folding babies basket. The frame painted cream has four swivelled small roller wheels attached. The basket frame can be removed by unscrewing four round knobs and the frame can be folded flat. The basket has a canvas base and sides woven with cotton cord. The basket is fitted with a pink liner with broad lace edges. Ther are two pockets sown onto the inside of the liner. The liner is in poor condition.The Universal Folding Basket.
