This case was used by Captain Charles Arblaster, a graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon, who served with the 8th Light Horse Regiment at Gallipoli where he was wounded and evacuated to the United Kingdom for treatment. He returned to Egypt and transferred to the 53rd Infantry Battalion and proceeded to the Western Front where he was wounded and taken prisoner of war at Fromelles on 20 July 1916 and died of wounds four days later. He was aged 21. His personal effects were returned to his family in this case. His diary was transcribed by Doug Hunter in 1997 and the original returned to the donor.A rare example of an officer's trunk used in WWI. It is well provenanced and of particular significance to his family, it being the case in which his personal effects were returned following his death. Turkish Model 1893 Mauser Rifle, based on the German Gewehr 98 infantry rifle. Stamped on receiver is Turkish crest / AS.FA / ANKARA / 1935 (ASFA is basically Turkish Arms Factory). Various Turkish and importer markings may be found scattered over the rifle. Many Imported by Century Arms International and so marked on the barrel muzzle on this example. Internal staggered box magazine, 5 rounds, 7.92 x 57 mm (8mm) Mauser caliber. M&MTB Season Greetings Card 1926 – 1927. The card consists of a heavily embossed brown cover with the MMTB logo on the front cover, with a printed sheet internally and tied together with a green ribbon. The photographs have been overlaid with a gold borders and the message has been printed in gold ink. An experienced printer estimated it would have taken some two hours to hand set the message, the press operator another two hours to get the registration correct before printing it and after printing allowed up to four days for the gold ink to dry before handling the paper again. This is certainly a work of art in terms of printing. Whether it was done by the M&MTB’s internal printing office is unknown. Of the view it would have only been sent to “select” people. This sign was used in the Billiard room of the Soldiers Memorial Institute Bendigo RSL. Years ago when the Billiard room had a section divided off for part of a Caretakers Residence it was placed on the internal roof of the residence. It was mainly used at RSL meetings. When the RSL Meetings moved to the B&DRSL Club Inc it was used during the day when the Museum was open. After the renovations to the Soldiers memorial in 2018 it was placed in what is now the Building & RSL History room of the BMM.Sign, timber construction box shape, illuminated faces front and rear with the RSL Logo in colour. This small medicine glass has ho manufacturer's or owner's marks. It has no side seams, the base is slightly concave, the embossed inscriptions are inside the glass, the clear glass has slight imperfections and ripples, and the glass is slightly opaque below the lip; these features point to the glass being blown into a mould, partially set, and spun between that mould and an internal mould that had the embossing on it, called a turn-mould process. The lip was then ground to be smooth. The process was patented in 1887 with the title of "Mold for blowing turned bottles".This medicine glass is significant as an example of medical equipment that has a design still used today. It is significant also for having the embossing inside the glass, which was likely produced by the turn-mould method of bottle (and container) making.Medicine glass or dose cup; clear glass with small imperfections and ripples in the glass, no side seams and a slightly concave base. This is an army officer’s hat from the Australian Army. It dates back to the 1940s before the word ‘Commonwealth’ was deleted in 1949 from the name of the military forces. The Australian Army has used the rising sun emblem in its official insignia since the early 1900s. The owner of this hat is not known. This hat has no known local provenance but is retained for display purposes.This is a khaki hat with an oval padded crown and a rounded peak. The top has four metal eyeleted air holes. The badge on the hat has the Rising Sun emblem. There is a brown leather strap round the brim attached by metal buttons. The inside of the hat has a blue cloth lining with a square of cellophane.
