The "Listening to the Voices" project aims to preserve the recorded memories of Portland C.E.M.A. ( Council for Encouragement of Music and the Arts) early members in order to enable access to local historians, family historians and current members. Dorothy Woolcock's recording was damaged, but the full 1983 transcript and most of the audio have survived. This book was produced as part of a raft of community projects under the umbrella of COWCH (City of Whitehorse Community Houses) with funding from the federal government. May Williams was the granddaughter of Samuel Coxall who came to Buninyong in the 1860s and became a market gardener.
