Shows the open doors with the bars down. Photo of the tram slightly out of focus. Taken early 1950's by an unknown photographer. In the overhead shows a sign black cross in a circular disc and behind the tram a incandescent light suspended in the middle of the overhead. The photo shows the construction of the track at this location, dog spiked sleepers, the rail supports for the inner check rail. St Kilda Park, now Albert Park Reserve, showing cows, eucalyptus trees, oval and a railway viaduct in background. The viaduct was part of the Windsor to St Kilda loop line which operated between 1857 and 1867. The loop line ran from the St Kilda railway station on a combination of wooden viaducts and earth embankments fifteen feet high, crossing over St Kilda and Punt Roads by way of bridges and then gradually decreasing to a level crossing at Union Street and then on to Windsor station. At the turn of the 20th century cigarette smoking was widely adopted, and elegant smoking accessories became a necessity and items such as this desk dispenser became a popular trend for fashionable men and women. Evidence of trends in the early 1900s.Rectangle metal cigarette dispenser mounted offset on a dark green painted timber base. The tin slides up on an inlay wall rail allowing the tin to slide up and down but not come of the wall. Tin lid is removable to allow the container to be filled The inside internal walls of the tin are angled so that when the tin is lifted it pushes a cigarette into the inset holder to dispense a cigarette. Bottom of the base is lined with green felt.On the top of the lid: 'Cigarettes' in script font.cigarettes, smoking, tabacco, trends
