Twin screw, triple expansion engine making 13 knots, 1910 owned by the Scottish Shire Line Ltd, London and registered at Glasgow.Wooden framed sepia photograph of Servicemen aboard ship being farewelled by family and friends.The vessel pictured is the HMAT Ayrshire. She saw service during WW1 between1914 and 1918. Inscribed "Ayrshire" 3-7-16. -

Lost letters of Dutton Wood and unpublished letters from the Boer War written by Fred Stocks, Dutton Wood's Uncle. Also many photos of WW1 Diggers from the author's family and anecdotes about their lives. An amazing collection of original letters came to light 100 years after the events of Anzac in WW1, and written by Edwin Dutton Wood, [known as Dutton], named after his maternal family name, and was in the first wave of soldiers at Gallipoli and wrote 28 letters and cards. Written to his hopeful sweetheart who was sister to his best mate, Norman Talbett. Duttan wrote to his mate's mother to console her on the sad news that her son Norman had been killed at Gallipoli. Leah Rosenthal ARRC enlisted in 1915 and embarked 18.12.15 from Australia to join the QAIMNSP service. Her service was terminted on 9.5.19. She was awarded the ARRC (2nd class) for her work at a CCS on the Western Front. Articles written about her state that she was also awarded an "MM". ARRC, (Royal Red Cross). CCS, (Casualty Clearing Station). MM, (Military Medal) QAIMNSP, (Queen Alexandria's Imperial Military Nursing Service) A brother Samuel was KIA in the war, refer 620. The badge was an “Empress Club 1914 Emergency Voluntary Aid Committee badge”which was a Ladies Club in Dover street Piccadilly. “Fortiter Fideliter” meaning “Strongly Faithful”. The centre of the badge is a Maltese Cross. There is a ribbon with the badge but missing. During WW1 the Club was used as a War Supply Depot. In 1917 a Red Cross hut was opened on the roof of the building. Pre war Leah had done her training at Alfred Hospital. After the war Leah and close friend Isabella Jobson bought St Lukes Private Hospital and renamed it “Vimy House”. Leah passed away in 1930. Isabella inaugurated and annual prize in Leah’s name at the Alfred Hospital for the best Theatre Nurse. Leslie Pryde enlisted in the AIF 2.8.15 in Divisional Ammunition Column 1 reinforcement 14 age 28 years. Embarked for Egypt 28.1.1916, transfers to 13th FAB 16.4.1916, embarks for France 16.6.1916, promoted to Cpl 7.6.1917, hospital with Trench Fever 12.12.1917, return to unit 30.12.1917, promoted to Sgt 26.1.1918, discharged from the AIF on 7.4.1919. Leslie Pryde was awarded the Military Medal on 15.10.1917 East of Westhoek serving in the 49th Battery. The citation is quite long but the main part is the following; During heavy shelling one of their ammunition dumps was hit and caught fire, Pryde and another NCO at great risk pulled rounds away from the fire area likely to explode and extinguished the fire saving 600 out of 1000 rounds, 400 had exploded.Medal set, court mounted, set of (3) re L Pryde. 1 Military medal, replica not engraved. 2 War medal 1914-1918, replica not engraved. 3 Victory Medal 1914 - 19 3.
