Clive MURRAY-WHITE (20 February 1946 - ) Born Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England Arrived Australia 1959 With an impressive career that has included sculpting marble for over 25 years Clive Murray-White has informed his at practice by studying at Brisbane Central Technical College, Guildford School of Art, United Kingdom, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Preston Institute of Technology, Monash University. His early work used welded and cast metal objects. In the 1980s he transitioned to marble sculpture Clive Murray White was Head of Sculpture at the Monash University Churchill (now Federation University Gippsland). He established the Cowwarr Art Space with Carolyn Crossley.Marble sculpture of Hygia, the Greek goddess of health and healing. Daughter of Asciepius the God of Medicine, Hygeia symbolises the preservation of good heallth and prevention of illness. St George's Health Service was established in 1912 by an order of Church of England nuns, the Sisters of the Holy Name. In 1949, the Hospital was sold to the Victorian government. For many years, St George's Health Service was known for expertise in maternity, acute medical and surgical services. From 1991, St George's Health Service began developing aged care services. From 1996 to 1998 the acute medical, surgical and maternity services were transferred to other facilities. From early 1999, St George's Health Service provided solely specialised aged care services. St George's Health Service became part of St Vincent's in March 2001, under an auspice arrangement with the Victorian government. Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans die on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob's endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today.This item is significant because it documents proposals put forward by Bob Hymans to develop facilities in the Falls Creek Tourist Area.A note, probably a draft of a letter, discussing plans by Bob Hymans to convert his annexe to be officially registered as a boarding house. The issue has been discussed with the Health Inspector at Bright. Necessary modifications before the start of the next season. He was seeking permission to have up to 5 lodgers stay during the current year, with further changes to be made for further expansion to satisfy Health Department requirements.
