Colour slide of VR class tram 53, route 59 Essendon Aerodrome in Mt Alexander Road just to the north of Shamrock St, North Essendon. Has the Ambasador Motel in the background. The tram was built for the Victorian Railways St Kilda - Brighton tram line in 1942 and sold to the MMTB when that line closed. The Melbourne cable tramway system operated between 1885 and 1940.Former Melbourne cable tram bell used for fortnightly and annual meetings of Ringwood Apex Club, mounted on timber base with metal shields showing presidents for each year from 1966 to 2003. Section of worn cable tram wire rope. One of the two ferrules has been engraved with "243 Weeks 341591 Miles" and the other "ANTD 12 Weeks" - "ANTD" is thought to be an abbreviation for anticipated. On this basis, the cable rope lasted 20 times its expected life!
