Twelve page report, gloss paper, orange covers and a brown comb binder, titled "Automatic Vehicle Monitoring System" August 1979 describing the introduction of the AVM system by the MMTB into Melbourne for both trams and buses. Gives the background to the system, how it works, what it can do, diagrams, photographs of Hamburg and Los Angeles, notes on how it can improve services and MMTB planning for the system including photographs of a bus in West Heidelberg where preliminary testing was being undertaken at the time. Manufactured by the Bell Punch Company Ltd of London as the "Ultimate Fare System", for issuing bus and tram tickets. Used by the MMTB for street sellers at Safety Zones in Melbourne. See items 7504 for a roll of 10c MMTB tickets and 7889 for a circular regarding their introduction in 1951. The machine was received from the donor with five rolls of NSW bus tickets - 3 Section, 25c, 45c, 60c and $1.00. Demonstrates a ticket machine used at Melbourne tram stops by "Safety Zone sellers".Complex apparatus consisting of metal parts, grey frame, levers, numbering counters, fitted with a cloth strap with clips and brown plastic backing. Report by Hector H Bell Junior of the MMTB early 1949, titled "Street passenger transport system of Geelong Urban Area". Looks at the history of public transport in Geelong, tramway data, financial analysis, the Geelong bus system, buses servicing the North Shore industries - principally the Ford Works, the condition of the bus fleet, taxi and private car hire services, functions of a street transport authority, town planning, populations and traffic surveys, relative values of passenger vehicles, trolley buses, industry and recommendations. Said the tramway system was obsolete, should be a rail service between North and South Geelong, set up a street transport body, replan the Geelong railway station, additional roads to service the North Shore area. Refers to attachments. Has a list of people involved in the preparation of the report.
