The Morgan family ran a store in Sussex Street from 1894, known as the Linton Economic Store. It was run between c.1906 and 1930 by J.H. (John Hutchison) Morgan, between 1930 and 1956 by R.H. (Robert Harold) Morgan, and between 1956 and 1964 by S.E. (Selwyn Eric) Morgan. Alwyn Roberts worked at the store from about 1946. See information in Charles & Alwyn Roberts family file. A copy of a speech by Sir John Young to launch Legacy Week in 1990 and a media release and details of the events of Legacy Week. Sir John Young was a Chief Justice of Victoria and the launch was in the Victoria Arts Centre. The events included an exhibition of Aviation Art at Legacy House. In 1990 the slogan was "Lest YOU forget" with an image of the statue of Simpson and his donkey rather than a personality, see items at 01250, 01520. R. Ching's grocery shop, Sussex Street, Linton, established in 1861, was sold by Alan Ching to Alf Nunn (father of Dulcie Morgan) in 1960 and was subsequently demolished. This photograph was originally believed to have been taken in the early 1900s. Image of burial site of Sgt Albert Robert WILLS born 16.11.1917 at Bendigo -VX 5275 He enlisted in 1939 embarked on HMT 'Ettrick" on 14/4/1940 after basic training at Puckapunyal. Disembarked in Egypt on 18/5/1940 and saw action at Bardia, Greece and Syria. Spent time in Lebanon and Ceylon before returning to Australia on 4/8/1942. On 13/10/42 disembarked at Milne Bay New Guinea and took part in the battle for Wau securing the airstrip and surrounding area after heavy fighting. Between 6-9 Feb 2/5 Bn C and D companies supported by A company spearheaded the attack engaged and defeated the enemy thus ending the battle of Wau Sgt WILLS was one of 28 men killed in action in the Crystal Creek area on 7/2/1943 and is buried at Lae War Cemetery.
