Purchased 2 cable tram cars for 20 pounds each in 1940. Also bought one of the dummies that pulled the cars for 30 shillings. Vehicles renovated and stored in his backyard in Bastings St Northcote. Spends hours each day restoring trams to their 1890 condition. Life member of Tramway Museum Society. End of cable tram era began in 1925, when State Government ordered a start of conversion to electric trams. Conversion took 15 years. Set of five pamphlets of an industrial or public relations nature issued during the early to mid 1980's. .1 - "The Wage Freeze" - foolscap printed on yellow paper, issued by the ATMOEA Vic Branch May 1983. .2 - "Public Transport: You pay more for less" - change of services, staff cuts, safety, Fuel conservation and what should be done - issued by the North Fitzroy Tramways Depot Committee and notes a meeting on Monday 17 September - (1984 by calendar check) - foolscap printed both sides on white paper. .3 - "$440,000 tram stripped for spare parts" - tram Z137, stripped - duplicated on blue quarto paper, issued by "concerned tramway workers" . Notes the tram had entered service in 1980 and had been stored for some time. .4 - "Open letter to passengers of Melbourne Tramway System" - complaining about the shortage of crews at Kew Depot - and asking people to register a complaint with the Minister Peter Spyker. Set of 6 printed financial reports for The Melbourne Tramways Trust, giving Liabilities and Assets, Sinking Fund and interest transactions for the half year end, and statement of receipts, statement of Receipts and expenditure. Signed by the Treasurer R. Wallace and the auditor C. W. Ellis and dated. All have been stored folded in half vertically. .1 - 31st March 1901 - has dirt marks, stains, edge damage and very dirty on rear. .2 - 30th September 1901 - has stain marks, edge damage, bottom right hand corner has been folded. .3 - 31st March 1902 - has one stain, top edge damaged, dirt marks on rear, bottom right hand corner folded. .4 - 30th September 1902 - has two stains, dirt marks on rear. .5 - 31st March 1903 - has minor fading around edges. Set of two black and white photographs of scrubber No. 4 at Preston Workshops. Scrubber No. 4 began as PMTT tram No. 96 in 1919, one of 5 tramcars delivered on November 1 1919 (numbers 92-97). A single-truck straight-sill combination tram built by the PMT and James Moore, Melbourne. This design followed conversion of "summer car" 49 (later G class) as a prototype. Tram 96 retained its number when control passed to the MMTB in 1920 and assigned as a K class. Shown as allocated to the Kew depot on 24 March 1928. In June 1929 tram 96 was converted to Scrubber Car 9A (later number 4). In 1934, works trams were re-numbered from their separate "A" suffix series to the same roster as passenger trams, using numbers 1-25 (left vacant by scrapped trams). Scrubber car 9A was renumbered as number 4. Shown as allocated to Hanna St depot on 9 June 1934 as scrubber 4, and also 30 June 1938. In November 1947 Scrubber Car 4 (ex-K class 96) was withdrawn and stored. Set of two black and white photographs of tramcar 815 in Collins St at Spencer St. Tram 815 was one of 24 W5 class trams built by MMTB at Preston Workshops in 1937. Entered service Saturday 13 November 1937. In April 1984 converted to SW5. Currently stored at Newport Workshops. Was relocated to the site of the former Glenhuntly Post Office in Glenhuntly Road Feb. 2020. Photo shows tram at corner with Specer St station parcels building and VR building in background. Photograph shows the cafe and adjacent buildings on the area that was enclosed by Esplanade tram Loop or Luna Park loop. Known as "Candy Corner" on MMTB drawings and locally. The reference page 9 gives the background to the site and its use. The café was designed by Carlo Catani, who is also remembered as the landscape designer for other parts of St Kilda including Catani Gardens. It is now used by a McDonalds store. In front of the building is a board advertising or promoting World War 2 war-saving schemes for St Kilda streets.
