Silver presentation trowel with wooden handle in an oblong black box. The trowel has an inscription. The trowel is in an oblong black box which is covered in black leatherette/paper and the inside is lined in royal blue satin on the bottom and in white satin inside the lid. There is supplementary material which includes a black and white photograph H150mm X W 200mm. On the reverse of the photo ‘LAYING FOUNDATION STONE 1923 / Sir Alexander Peacock, Minister for Education’. Other supplementary material icludes copies of four sheets of A4 typed letters dated between 9th October, 1941 and 18th November, 1941 among The Director of the Education Department, The Principal of Collingwood Technical School and The Hon. T. Tunnecliffe, MLA, concerning the wishes of Lady Peacock that the trowel be presented to the school and the school's acceptance of the offer. Redruth Gaol was constructed in 1856. It was the first South Australian gaol to be built outside Adelaide. The goal was built to house 30 prisoners (male and female). It closed in 1897 at which time the prisoners were transferred to Gladstone Gaol. The former Redruth Gaol was renovated and started a new life as a Girls' Reformatory in 1897 and closed in 1922. This gaol was used in the film 'Breaker Morant'.A number of colour photographs featuring a stone gaol.

Textiles. Calico flour bag printed on one side in red "GRIMSBY ROLLER FLOUR MILLS, STEWART SCOTT & CO CRYSTALS, BENDIGO''. In centre is a crown. Remnants of black cotton stitching along top opening. The two-story section of this mill was built in about 1873 with grinding stones. In 1887 the owners Stewart and Scott purchased new roller machinery and built a four-storey building to house it. This grinding stone (mortar) was used by Aboriginal people to grind or crush different materials such as berries and seeds for food production. In order to grind material, a smaller upper stone (the pestle) would have been used to grind material against this lower stone (the mortar). The stone was found by a farmer on land south of Donald in the 1950’s and was used as a door stop in the family home for many years. In the 1990's the stone was used by the farmer's grandaughter at her home at Swanwater West, to hold the lid down on an above ground swimming pool skimmer box. Stone

Typewritten 10-page account of ''John McCaviston's Wonderful Escape'' (from the Hustlers Reef mine, 1873). Detailed story of shift boss, M'Caviston who descended into the flooding mine to warn workers below (who had actually left somewhat before) and who was himself trapped. The water in the shaft rose to a much higher level but M'Caviston was saved by being able to take refuge in a drive that had a 'stulling' (a mound of stones under a raised portion of the drive - allowing for an amount of trapped air). The account concludes as follows: ''The preservation of his life was discussed from a scientific point of view, and diverse opinions were expressed, and doubts (sic)'' (there is no page 11). There has been a fair amount of confusion about this object as the paperwork states that a 'greenstone' gavel with a maori head carving and plaque mounted on green nephrite stone' was gifted when in fact the gavel is made of wood with a silver plaque. There has been no suggestion made as to what happened to the greenstone gavel. We can assume that it was lost or stolen and replaced with a plain wooden one that we now hold at ANZCA. From the attached plaque the Gavel was gifted to the Faculty of Anaesthetists by the New Zealand Fellows of the Faculty in 1965. Margaret died in 1854 before the building was completed by her son, who built the third Buninyong Inn on the corner of Learmonth and Warrenheip.
