Friday, September 28, 1883 was a memorable date for Wycheproof as on that day was the long-awaited official opening of the railway. It was recorded that no less than 23 parishes would act as feeder to the rail line. The Railway Station closed in December 1990 but the building was renovated in 2010 with plans for a community focus and cultural events.The arrival of rail opened up the Mallee. Local farmers began sending wheat, sheep and wool by rail. Improvements to transport stock was ongoing and the eventual rail extension north of the town, resulted in a well patronised passenger service for years. Originally a parish church, St Paul's became a cathedral in 1981 when Bendigo was declared a separate diocese. The church, designed by Robert A Love, was dedicated in 1868, with the bells being added in 1873 and the organ in 1883. Eva Fisher was a valued member of the AFB and wished to commission a sculpture for the grounds in the front of Paterson Hall. Noted sculptor Ian Bow was commissioned and created Urban Cycle, a six panel metal sculpture that follows the development of the local area. This item was originally hanging over the double doors inside the Billiard Room of the Soldiers Memorial Institute pre being a Museum in 1998. After the renovations to the SMI 2016 - 18 it was placed on the other side of the double doors in the foyer. Drill Hall, Bank Street, Port Fairy. This two-storied building was constructed in 1874 as livery stables and was later used for the garrison from c.1885. The structure is symmetrically arranged about a large arched opening and features include the plinth, quions and the parapet. Owners: Wayne and Doreen Ellen Wilson (nee Patterson); 1992-current: Shane Debney and Anthea Cochrane who renovated and converted to their Optometrist practice in 1994. Wayne Wilson was an electrical mechanic. He was listed at 23 Luck St in 1963 electoral roll but not from 1967 onwards. This building was later known as "Traquair House". This sign was situated outside the Soldiers Memorial Institute building in Pall Mall Bendigo. It was in the centre space of the Portico. It was taken down approximately 1999 - 2000 due to damage. This plaque was originally placed in the Foyer (Vestibule on original plans) of the Soldiers Memorial Institute Bendigo in 1921. After closure in 2016-18 for the renovations to SMI the plaque was then placed in what was originally called the "Writing Room" now called "The Building and RSL History Room". Witness Box, sourced during the period of renovation of the Kew Court House, believing that it was an original item of furniture from the building. Based on an examination of the woods in the item by heritage consultants, it was deemed not to be original to the building. As the item had been donated, the item could not be returned. The hotel began life in the 1860s as Luth's Hotel, and was then known as O'Sullivan's Hotel and McCuskey's Hotel before becoming the Railway Hotel in about 1890. The change to this name occurred after tenders were let to build the railway line to Linton in 1889. The hotel was substantially renovated in the early 1900s and the verandah is thought to have been added by about 1920.One of three colour photographs printed on a single sheet of photographic paper. When the SMI was opened in Nov 1921 the Bendigo RSL Sub - Branch had occupancy from that day on. The Building became a Museum opened to the public in 1998 by the RSL. The origins of this project goes back to 2011 with a letter to the City of Greater Bendigo of the possibility of an upgrade to the SMI from the Bendigo District RSL Sub - Branch Inc. Some renovations had already taken place and some structural work. After initial talks a sub - committee of 3 persons from the RSL was elected to work with the Council along with other bodies who would be involved. Plans eventuated by 2015 and were put to the RSL for approval. From there the fund raising began from the State/Federal Govt's, RSL, the Public and Council itself. This was achieved and finally in Sept 2016 the SMI/Museum was packed up completely and the Renovations began in 2017. Set of eight colour photos showing the interior of the Original St Martins Church Hall after being moved to Belgrave Heights and renovated by the Shire of Yarra Ranges to become the premises of Southern Sherbrooke Historical Society. Photographed by Susan Heywood-Downard in 2000. New panelling, new gas heater, original windows. Looking through the open door across the new decking, the Original St Martins Church can be seen in its new location. Both buildings are owned and operated by the historical society.
