The original glass negative is part of a set donated to the Society by Ian McKenzie, a professional photographer in Kew. The grave of Violet Laura Steel (1892-1914), after 1914. Violet Laura Steel, was the daughter of Charles Joseph Steel and Julia Harrington. She was born 31 October 1892 in the Police camp in Echuca, and died, aged 21, on 22 May 1914 at her father’s home ‘Maescourt’ in Gladstone Parade, Elsternwick. St Aidan's Orphanage, Bendigo. Black and white photograph (11.5cm x 7cm) of the construction of a building at the orphanage with three statues and rose plantings in the foreground. The words 'Bendigo Orphanage’ is written in pencil on the reverse. A small stamp, possibly with the words - by Harringtons - is over stamped with the number 3 53. This photo was probably taken in 1930-1 during the construction of the second orphanage building, two storeys and to the east of the 1905 building. In the early years, Legacy organised outings to the property of Legacy founder, Legatee Stan Savige, who had a place in Balnarring close to the beach. Permanent camp buildings were built in 1930. In 1930 Lord Somers (Governor of Victoria) also started a camp at a nearby property and the area was renamed Somers. Legacy Somers Camps continued intermittently at Stan's property until it was decided in 1951 to make other arrangements for holidays. Legatee Savige was the key founder of Legacy in 1923. They were removed from the self adhesive pages of a photo album of Comradeship activities (from 1930 to 1977).The Comradeship photo album was put together by the Comradeship committee and records events that Legatees did and places they lived or visited. Ships were rare on the wharfs meaning seamen were also rare in the missions. However they started the fundraising for the extension of the 1888 Port Melbourne building which was becoming too small. At the end of the year, Reverend Weller announced he was appointed assistant in London. He and his wife Alexina left in January 1929 after five years.
