Photocopy of a newspaper article titled A Victorian dream-home by Richard Foord. The article is an estate agent, Craig Tweed & Co Pty Ltd, ad about a house called Kilhallen which had been in the Truscott family for four generations. The house and the building materials are described. A photo shows the back of the two story house with a small room added on at the back. On the back of the page titled Bendigo properties is a photo of a two story house with ironlace on the verandas, a tree partly obscuring the house and a single story weatherboard building beside it. An auction sale sign is on the front fence. The second photo shows an ornate fireplace with tall carving above it. Written at the top of the page is: A Truscott. Book - IRELAND FIRST BOOK OF ARITHMETIC
One hundred and forty-three page brown cardboard covered 'First book of Arithmetic' for use of schools issued by the Commissioner of National Education, Ireland, dated 1876. Unknown donor however small card loosely inserted between pages states in print, 'Owned by Mr Wm Truscott, Esler Street, California Gully, Sandhurst. Handwritten inside front page identical. Medal - SOROPTIMIST COLLECTION: CHAIN OF OFFICE
Rectangular silver frame with cream mount. Within the frame is a silver chain from which are suspeded 31 circular medallions. Each medallion is engraved with the names of a member of the Bendigo Soroptomist Club. A large, ornate oval floral medallion is suspended from the bottom of the chain. Around the oval is engraved on a silver surround ' Soroptomist International of Bendigo' Frame is wrapped in cellophane. On back of frame 'Truscott Art and Framing'. A grey jewellery poucn is enclosed in the cellophane wrapping, presumably it held the engraved medallions prior to the chain being made.organisation, community, soroptomist international -

Typed Addendum for Page 9. Mentioned is the initials of Captain Truscott who was officer in charge of the Long Gully Fire Brigade from 1919 to 1920 was A T Tony. Next is after the brigade was deregistered the station was demolished and rebuilt at Haggar St Eaglehawk for use as a bakery. It traded under the name of Dingle's Modern Bakery. After World War 2 it was taken over by a bedding company, then later RAOB Buffalo Lodge Hall. Cornish humour and dialect is also mentioned. Newspaper cutting titled Prominent family to reunite written by Susan Turpie. No date. Five Cornish brothers Anthony, Thomas, William, John and Edward Truscott made their way to Australia after mining work in Cornwall began to dry up. They settled in Long Gully and California Gully and later spread out to Strathfieldsaye and further through the region. Jean McDonald organised a family reunion which had activities at the Long Gully Uniting Church, the Long Gully Uniting Church Hall and Lake Weeroona. Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways fare system at the time of the one man trams, tokens which could be pre purchased by travellers and save time when boarding trams. See notes on file re these eg Reg Item 1801. Fare tokens - 2d - 21mm diameter - green celluloid - with "B.E.T." in large capitals on front centre of token and words "Ballarat Electric Tramways 1913" on circumference. Giving: members of the Cobden tent No. 39 independent Order of Rechabites in front of their building in California Gully, 1922. the order operated between 1865-1978. Most of the Gully's leading men were members, including Brother C. Blainey (father of professor Geoff Blainey), one time manager of the Bendigo Advertiser, Brother W. Stephens, Brother Batten Perrow, three brothers Speedy, five Brothers Richards, Phillips and Robertson. The Archie Robertson memorial seat is still in the Gully near the site of the old lodge room.
