This item was donated as a photograph of Louisa Morrison. Louisa (or Luisa) Rosanna Morrison nee Haag came from an early settler family in the farming community of Wandin. The woman photographed is in her old age. If this is indeed Louisa Morrison, the photograph would date from the early 1940s, since she died in 1946 at the age of 70. However the costume and the style of the photo suggest an earlier date, possibly the early 1900s. This could be Louisa's mother, Emma Martha Haynes, or mother-in-law Margaret (McNeil) Morrison. The woman is shown in a garden, probably because the family were farmers/orchardists. Louisa married Daniel McNeil Morrison, who was nine years her senior , in 1900. They had four children and farmed Morrisons' Orchard in Old Hereford Road, Mt Evelyn. The Morrison home was to become the important community house in Mt Evelyn, Morrison House. Morrison Reserve is part of their land, as was Yarra Hills Secondary College, Mt Evelyn Special Developmental School and the Reserve and Athletics facilities, including a tennis club. In 1981 the land title was changed to the Shire of Lillydale, who purchased the land and established the Morrison House Community House from 1976 (ie before they legally owned the land).This picture is of social significance as it is the only reputed picture of Louisa Morrison nee Haag.Brown round cornered frame with gold colour on inner frame. Cornish Association Newsletter Volume 9, Number 2, June 2003 mentions the unveiling of the Long Gully Mining Monument on May 25th. The unveiling was carried out by John Bolitho Grand Bard of Cornwall in conjunction with Cr Darrel McClure. The ceremony was followed by afternoon tea supplied by the Long Gully History Group and organised by Carol Rasmussen of the Long Gully Community House. Some special guests were Gwen Phillips president of the C.A.V. and Vivian Pryor from Newquay Cornwall. The day was finished by Annual Dinner held at the Kangaroo Sports Club. Plans for other celebrations were underway. A paper, the Cornish in the First World War, was presented by Tom Luke at the Cornish association of South Australia's seminar. This photo is another view of the brick Ticket Box (58.1) on the right side of main gates and next to the former Dane House. In 1999 the house was owned by Stawell City Council and used as the Community Neighborhood House. It was demolished some years ago. By 1881 Bunguluke was a small settlement as recorded, December 5, in the Charlton "Mercury". It reports that in that year Draper's Store, Hotel and Post Office and residence at Bunguluke North was totally destroyed by fire. For years now there has been little sign of community life with houses few and far between and acreages have gone into larger holdings. The map references land blocks and owners for that era.This important map shows the local land ownership and local features that existed in 1923. The cornice has a narrow layer of previously coloured plaster which is now overlaid with a grey distemper. The foundation of the cornice is moulded cement. Remnant flowers moulded in the central band of the cornice include a rose and a sunflower. John Clarence (McKenzie) McHarg was born in Corryong, Victoria on 12 August 1905 to Hugh Patrick McKenzie-McHarg and Laura Mary Dune. After attending school at Christian Brothers’ College in Albury, he also attended St Patrick’s College at Ballarat. Mr McHarg then studied at Melbourne University, graduating with a Bachelor of Law. After graduating he completed his studies with Messrs. Mahoney and O’Brien of Melbourne with whom he entered a partnership. In 1931 John McHarg appears on the electoral roll for Wodonga listed as a barrister. The following year he opened his legal practice in Sydney Road, Wodonga. Jack (John) McKenzie McHarg married Eva Whyte in 1934 and the house called “Baelon” was built around this time. THe builder was Rob McCulloch. McHarg is first listed as paying rates on the house in Beechworth Road in 1934-35. He died on 12 January 1996 in Wodonga after many years of service to the Wodonga and district community. The house is still in the hands of the McKenzie-McHarg family. This building is one of the oldest remaining homes in Wodonga and was owned by a prominent community member.A series of photos depicting the home of the McHarg family in Wodonga. Miss Olive Codling was a Foundation Member and a Life Member of the Wodonga Historical Society. Many of her prize-winning photos are held in the Society Collection. She also held a range of roles and committee positions in a wide range of Wodonga community organisations. COURT HOUSE - Wodonga's first court house was a timber building constructed in 1859. In January 1877, a contract was let to add the brick building to the existing structure. This court house opened in June 1877. This gabled court house was designed by architect Peter Kerr and was constructed at a cost of £1,325. It served as the court house until it was replaced in 1920. It was then used as a private residence for many years. At various stages it was also operated as a restaurant, a real estate agency, an antique shop and currently operates as commercial offices.This photo collection is significant as it documents how the businesses and buildings in Wodonga have evolved and contributed to community throughout the 20th century.A black and white image of the original Court House and Police paddock.
