This book was awarded to Mary Elizabeth Pyers in 1886 for a prize for repetition of hymns. Mary entered Clarendon Ladies' College in 1886. In the original register Mary's married name became Mrs. Duncan, father's christian name is listed as George, his occupation as squatter and his residence as Lawler Station Donald. "Mrs. Duncan (M. Pyers).-Early in the year Mrs. Duncan was appointed a "Justice of the peace." In April, during the ceremony of unveiling a "Pioneer Memorial" at the Minyip Hospital, a sun-dial was erected on the front lawn inscribed thus: "Erected by Welfare League to Mary Duncan in appreciation of her life's work for the district, 1929." Mrs. Duncan was particularly pleased with a congratulatory message from Clarendon and declares that "so much of the 'better things' for which I have been chosen are on account of early influence and wise guidance, especially from dear Mrs. Kennedy." A consistently high-achieving student Joan was awarded Dux in 1944, Equal Head of Form 1947 and 1948, Honours 1949 and a Form prize in 1950. Phillippa (Tarrant) Rowland attended Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies College 1956 - 1967, Kindergarten to Leaving. The Prize was awarded for good academic progress during the second grade. Phillippa has provided the following reminiscences from her years at CPLC: [Principal] Miss McPherson used to come once a week to the prep school to read to us and the books chosen were then presented as prizes at the end of the year. Mrs Langham was the head of the junior school, Mrs Tolliday and Mrs Alexander (who used to play the piano for our morning assemblies) the other teaching staff. We would gather, at the bell, in the concrete yard at the back of the school, in rows on the concrete lines, have our fingernails and uniform inspected, we had to show a handkerchief before filing in to the large room for assembly. We also had lunch and afternoon naps in this large room, folk dancing, plays, other special occasions. Book in English language. The ring was the property of Valerie Dale who attended CPLC in the 1930's. It was donated to the school by her daughter in 2012. The ring is the first of its type to be returned to the school. The ring was accompanied with Valerie's school hatband and a blank school-produced Christmas card. Historical significance to the school because it is the only example of its type. According to the Ballarat College Report, Prize list and Prospectus published 1875 Miss E Rees was Dux of the school 'Ladies Department' and winner of the Mr R F Glover's Prize Essay. This book was awarded to Miss E Rees the following year by the Ballarat Ladies College associated with the ballarat Grammar School, Principal F J Thomas. Thomas had been appointed principal of Ballarat College in 1874 following the untimely death of the school's first principal Robert Oliver McCoy. However Thomas's credentials were questionable and he left the school under a cloud during 1875. Thomas established a rival college. This action had a devastating impact on Ballarat College because many students enrolled at the new college. This book is evidence of just one such transition. The fire screen was gifted to Mr J J Watson at his retirement in 1952. The assembly hall at the Mair Street property was named in his honour. Mr J J watson was a member of the school council from its inception in 1919 when he was elected as a representative of Scots' Church. He succeeded Rev J T Riddle as secretary to council in 1920. In 1954 the assembly hall at the Mair Street property was officially named Watson Hall in his honour. In 1957 the constitution of the Council was amended to enable Mr Watson to be elected its first life member. The fire screen was returned to the school by the family after his death. In a tribute in 1952 at the time of Mr watson's retirement from secretarial position on council, Principal Kerr said, 'Mr watson's family was friendly with the Kennedy(founder) family in Ireland, so that his interest in Clarendon was almost hereditary. His breadth of vision, generosity, devotion to the advancement of the school in every way, and meticulous care of the property and ikts interests, have given him a unique place in the hostory of the school. Shield presented in 1939 and awarded to winning house at the annual CPLC Inter-House Athletics competition; Awarded 1939 - 1950. A note in Touchstone December 1939 p.9 reads, 'House rivalry was greatly stimulated on Sports' Day by the gift of the Bevan John Shield. The shield is made of rosewood with silver plates attached, on which is to be inscribed the name of the winning house. Also, each year, an enamel band of the colour of the victorious house is to be placed round the silver plate. We are very grateful to Mr John for his generous and much appreciated gift. Constance Ross was an early pupil at the school attending classes during the Kennedy era (1876 - 1902), teacher until retiring in 1935, but returning 1940 - 1943 during the war years. Constance served on the Clarendon Council 1925 - 1949. In 1954 the school named a visual education centre at the Mair Street campus the IC Ross classroom. The room was furnished and equipped by the Old Collegians Association to honour the long school service of Constance Ross.
