Mail Hotel. entertainment films carbon lamp None visible Metal ...This lamp was the light source for the projector which was operated at Dunkeld and the wider district during the 1920's and 30's. The company which operated it was called Royal Pictures and showede their films in district halls. Owned by Claude Taylor and Reuben Schache. The projector was hand operated. Films were also shown outside on a large screen outside the Royal Mail Hotel.Metal carbon arc lamp. 6 Adjustor screws to adjust the rods to strike and hold the carbon arc. These rods allow adjustment and totation of the carbon rods which hold the arc. Brass feferrules are used for fine adjustments. Hand wheels are insulated to protect the operator. This arc lamp produced the light for a movie projector.None visibleentertainment, films, carbon lamp -

Mary Smith was the daughter of Felix Smith. He built the Wycheproof Court House, Post Office and Royal Mail Hotel. Mary and John Keane lived in a mud brick house after their marriage. Hotel, Royal Mail Hotel, Redan Club Hotel, Provincial Hotel ...Digital copy of a paper or research report by John Hargreaves, titled "Ballarat Hotels - Past and Present", dated January 1943 looks at the history of Ballarat's hotel from a licensing viewpoint and their closure as a result of various referendums held in 1888, 1891, 1920, 1930 and 1938. Document lists the hotels closed, the amounts of compensation paid, the results of the polls and has sketches of some of the hotels, including the Vine Hotel, Royal Mail Hotel, Redan Club Hotel, Provincial Hotel, Bucks Head Hotel. Part of a larger document. Has on the last page a copy of a story in The Herald 14/5/1943, about the author, a teetotaller and his work that was passed over to the Ballarat Historical Society. Reports on the votes taken at the various dates. The original of the work is held by the Gold Museum. Copied by Alan Bradley - see Reg item 6380. Wedding Dress - Bodice.Cream coloured bodice of wedding dress. ''Japanese silk with transparent yolk of chiffon tucked Russian Body'' ( Quote from newspaper of the day).Long pintucked sleeves. Fine ribbon trim and bows at wrists. Two flounces of silk, trimmed with ribbon at elbows. Front panel fastened at side with metal hooks and hand made loops, to show a centre panel trimmed with chiffon frills. Pearl beaded motifs at front. Sash at waistline ties at the side - finished with pearl beading, and and a stand up chiffon collar. Worn by Mary Smith who was the daughter of Felix Smith. He built the Wycheproof Court House, Post Office and Royal Mail Hotel. Mary and John Keane lived in a mud brick house after they their marriage. This set of original prints belonged to Town Clerk Syd ANDERSON, then to his daughter-in-law Phyllis ANDERSON (donor). Accompanied by list of captions, both hand written and typed (the latter a partial listing).View of Beach and piers from Sugar Works, c1871, showing Railway and Town Piers and two jetties in between (caption refers to Donaldson's Jetty), Pier Hotel, gates and some of the yard of the Victorian Sugar Works, and site where Morley's Coal Depot will soon be built, its timber stable and workshop occupied at the time by Carl SEISMAN, mail contractor and owner of the Royal Mail Hotel next door (unseen). The first curved roofed shed can be seen at Town Pier; this remained until demolition in the 1950s. The Post Office Boat House is also visible just before the first small jetty (which is at the place where Alfred LINGHAM's Marine Hotel - the first in the area, 1840 - had its jetty). The collection of over 500 images is held in partnership between Eltham District Historical Society and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (Eltham Library) and is now formally known as the 'The Shire of Eltham Pioneers Photograph Collection.' This Almanac records the many various organisations, such as churches schools councils and law related information.It lists public holidays, members of Parliament as well as births and deaths natural events such as rainfall, sunrise/sunsets and moon charts. it records mail charges and coach timetables.A middle section presents a calendar for 1870 with a record of events which were deemed important since the time of settlement It lists such things as the first telegram from Melbourne to Sydney1858, Governor Bligh deposed 1808, Burke and Wills funeral 1863. At the bottom of the page is a Warrnambool Business Directory which includes J S Rowley Corio brewery, Royal Hotel , J H Rule Painter, plumber and glazier, J Brady , tinsmith and A Lanagan , Golden Boot The Warrnambool Examiner was founded by John Wilkinson and Richard Osburne in 1851. After a gap of a couple of years Richard Osburne resumed publication in October 1853 and continued until 1867. William Fairfax and Henry Laurie then leased the paper (1867 to 1872) before Richard Osburne again became the proprietor from October 1872 to April 1878 and from December 1879 to December 1880 when publication ceased. Fairfax and Laurie were the proprietors of the paper when this Almanac was published. William Fairfax was a member of the Fairfax family which was, and still is, associated with the publication of many Australian newspapers. Henry Laurie later became well-known as a Melbourne University Philosophy Professor.This single sheet of newspaper is an interesting and valuable record of Warrnambool and its people in 1870. There are names of many local people recorded and it also gives an insight into the variety of businesses and orhganisations which were established by 1870. It is also interesting to note that there are at least ten different styles of print on the page.Large single broadsheet of newspaper with large black heading and eight columns of print.
