Carlisle and its cathedral. This cathedral church, which has stood on this site for over 800 years has a great story to tell. It is a story that can be traced back further still, to an even earlier church of the 7th century AD. Archaeological excavations on this site have taken the story back to Roman times. Today the dean and canons and other cathedral staff ensure that the worship of God remains the main work of this cathedral, while long-standing traditions of music, hospitality and education are also maintained. The story of this place is not so much about buildings, but about people. The buildings remain as evidence of the lives of people who lived and worked here and of what they believed and achieved. Until 1540 a community of Augustinian canons served the cathedral. They lived highly organized lives in monastic buildings suited to their needs. Galvanised steel structures shaped like doors or windows with etched copper panels with images on them and patinated surface colour. The designs express and reflect Darebin’s cultural diversity and the history of the site, from the land of which the Wurundjeri are the traditional custodians, to brick works (Northcote Brick Company) and then finally as the Northcote Landfill.

"At the age of 20, I brought my first film camera, a solid, heavy and much loved Minolta XGM. Photographing mostly in black and white, I’ve been taking portraits, capturing landscapes and documenting people’s lives and rituals ever since. And now, more than 35 years later, I’m still excited to be on this journey with photography – alas, no longer with that Minolta. What attracts me to photography is the medium’s ability to show us the ordinary in an extraordinary way. My work has been acquired by the City of Darebin and the State Library of Victoria. I have been long and short listed for several major prizes, including the Moran Photography Award, the Head on Award and the National Photographic Portrait Prize."

Yosl Berger’s attraction is not just as a great humanist, this near centurion artist believes in the constancy of work which produces a continual evolution of a full and prolific artistic practice. Berger also lends service to each day when he opens up his Tel Aviv studio to create – even at 95 years of age he still considers himself as a student of the world

This stained glass lancet window was presented to Christ Church by John Fletcher's immediate relatives as a memento to his Life and influence. He was born in approx. 1856. He died on 24th January 1931, aged 75 years.Stained glass, lancet window, west wall, north nave, left window in group of five lights, depicting St. George slaying the dragon.St George To the Glory of God/ in loving memory of/John Fletcher/ who departed into rest/on the 24th January 1931/ This window was erected by his/ immediate relatives as a loving/ memento to his Life and Influence

The window in this photograph was commissioned by the Sandringham Yacht Club in conjunction with a Masonic Lodge and work carried out by Gerry Cummins in 1980. In the background is the S.S. 'Kanimbla' built 1935, Belfast for McIlwraith McEacham and was the last large passenger ship built specifically for Australian owners. Designed to carry 400 passengers , she plied her trade around the Southern and Eastern Ports of Australia. In WW2 she was an armed merchant cruiser and served in Indian waters and escorted the 1st convoy out of the Singapore after the Japanese invasion. She later operated in the Pacific after the war and after repatriation duties she was decommissioned and subsequently sold to be renamed 'Oriental Queen' which eventually caught fire and sank. . The small yacht in the foreground refers to the Sandringham YC.
