To mark the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria reigning as the monarchy for 60 years. She died four years later in 1901. These medals were mass produces by Stokes & Sons of Melbourne, many of the local government bodies had them made.Marking the 60 years that Queen Victoria was on the throne. A round medal with a young and older faced Queen Victoria on one side. And on the other side is the Shire of Ballarat 's "Coat of Arm". In 1901 Cameron was captain of the Rokewood Rifle Club. John Cameron was a Rokewood blacksmith in 1902. John (Jack) Richard Watson was the son of Thomas Watson (10/11/1838 - 27/04/1920) and Emma Eliza Jane Phillips (25/05/1844 - 12/10/1925) and was born at Yendon on 16/12/1876 and died 11/10/1973 aged 96 at the Wimmera Base Hospital in Horsham while residing in Murtoa. Still a teenager Thomas reached Melbourne in the 1850's and found work helping to build the Spencer Street Bridge over the Yarra Yarra, as it was known then, before making his way to the Ballarat Goldfields. After being tricked out of a claim he sought work with the Victorian Railways, and later acquired a farm at Yendon. Emma Phillips was born in Geelong and had moved with her mother to Ballarat. Emma was a member of the Ballarat Philharmonic Orchestra and sang in the choir of St Pauls Church in East Ballarat, where they were married. Jack worked in the gold mining industry - firstly as a braceman at the New Kohinoor Mine at Sebastapol and then to a mine at Rokewood, both times following his older brother Frederick George. He later worked in 15 different mines before changing occupations. He was employed as an engine driver for the Murtoa Waterworks Trust at the Murtoa Power Station when he lost his lower left arm when it was caught in an engine belt in 1929. Jack married Edith Emma Yung (01/07/1887 - 05/10/1988 ) who was born at Allendale and died aged 101 at Wendouree after livivng most of her married life at Murtoa. They had five children all born in Murtoa: Richard Henry (Harry); Edith 'Alice'; Grace; Ernest Alfred (Alf) and Jonn Grenville (Gren). They were married at Yendon. This patchwork cushion section was handmade in 1898 by Sarah Jane Jones (nee Emerson) and donated by her Great-Granddaughter. It is an example of needlework created in the late 19th century. It is believed that the note was added to the cushion at a later date and incorrectly refers to a different item.The cushion section is significant for is example of handmade craft and needlework used in the late 19th century for home decor.Patchwork; a square and a rectangular shape of p patchwork prepared for making into a cushion. Shaped patches of a variety of design and fabric. The pieces are roughly joined together with visible cross stitches. These are three volumes of Peloubet’s Select Notes. The book contents are described as ‘Inductive, Suggestive, Explanatory, Illustrative, Doctrinal and Practical’. The books were issued as curriculum material for Sunday Schools and were first published in the mid 1870s and continued to be published for the next 100 years. These three volumes belonged to M. P. McMeekin and this is presumed to be Margaret Parker McMeekin (1868-1948), the daughter of John McMeekin and Isabella Parker of Warrnambool. John McMeekin was the Rate Collector and Inspector and then the Valuer for the Warrnambool Shire in the 1860s, 70s and 80s. Two sons, William and James, operated a produce export business in Kepler Street under the name of McMeekin Brothers and another son, Charles was an auctioneer in Warrnambool. It is surmised that Margaret McMeekin was a Sunday School teacher either in Warrnambool or Port Fairy. These books are of interest as examples of what was taught in Sunday Schools in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They are also of interest because they belonged to Margaret McMeekin, a member of a prominent family in Warrnambool at that time. These are three books of a religious nature written by F. and M. Peloubet and published in 1895, 1898 and 1904. .1 A hard cover book of 346 pages with a greenish brown cover and gold lettering on the spine. Found in the loft of Bank of N.S.W, Linton 1980s.Certifies that Charles Barrett of Buninyong is the proprietor of one share (no. 996) in the "Temperance Crystal Malt Ale Company Limited, Buninyong. Signed by Theo(?) Daniel and David Phelan, Directors, and by Charles Barrett, Secretary, dated 27 April 1898. Cream coloured paper with printed green border, purple printing. "BUNINYONG" printed across top and bottom borders, and "VICTORIA" printed on left and right-side borders. No. of issue 114. Certificate crossed in red ink top to bottom, with words "Issued as Fully Paid Up" handwritten in red ink. Serrated left edge of certificate suggests it was detached from a booklet or form. Age newspaper 24.10.1898. This newspaper was used as packing for a picture in the children's room, and the paper would have been read by August Schwerkolt. The house was purchased by Whitehorse Council, and pulled down in 1924.
