Part of a collection of photographs owned by Dorris McLaughlin who was born in Greensborough, in 1899 to John McLaughlin and Rosalie Ellen Whatmough. The collection contains photographs of friends and relatives from the Greensborough and Eltham areas. "Church at St. Helena built by Major Beale who was paymaster at St. Helena then migrated to Australia. Poplar trees near present bridge (at Hurstbridge?) are supposed to be cuttings brought out by Major Beale and given to Robert Gray Hurst." - Mrs. Ferguson.This photo forms part of a collection of photographs gathered by the Shire of Eltham for their centenary project book,"Pioneers and Painters: 100 years of the Shire of Eltham" by Alan Marshall (1971). The collection of over 500 images is held in partnership between Eltham District Historical Society and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (Eltham Library) and is now formally known as the 'The Shire of Eltham Pioneers Photograph Collection.' St Martin's Anglican Church was built in 1889. Victoria Hall was built for E. Miles in 1884. The post card is part of a series taken c. 1907.Copy of a coloured (hand coloured?) post card showing St Martin's Anglican Church, Armstrong St, Charlton. The church is a yellow, timber building with a cross at each end of the roof. A white picket fence runs along the front of the church. There are three trees on the edge of the road in front of the church. There is a large single storey red brick building to the right of the church with a verandah over the footpath. A horse is coming down the road past the red brick building. The post card has Armstrong Street Charlton in the top right. 1950. The St Matthew's Church of England, Cheltenham, Cinderella Dance in aid of the Church Tennis Club. The Dance was held in the Cheltenham Mechanics Institute and Temperance Hall. This building was demolished in 1960 to be replaced in the same year by the Cheltenham Hall and Library. Photograph is black and white. There are rows of men and women, either holding hands, or just standing. All the women are in gowns and the men are in suits.
