His father William was a gold miner and his mother's name was Sarah. Their family won many singing and instrumental awards. Bob Pattie of the Ballarat Brass Band believes the Ballarat City Band with Frank Wright as Conductor travelled to Queensland to take part in a contest up there. This is supposed to be the very first time that a Victorian Band had gone to Queensland to take part in a contest. "Frank Wright is actually marching with his band. That's him near the side drummer.
