Destination roll - white lettering on black background. Destination roll used at the MMTB Footscray depot. Has stencil words "STOP" on bottom, stencilled miniature destinations on rear to assist drivers to locate the destination. Roll has a short unpainted section at the bottom. Destinations in order from top are: ; RUSSELL ST; BALLARAT RD; SPECIAL; FOOTBALL GROUND; AMMUNITION FACTORY; PYROTECHNIC FACTORY; CITY VIA HAYMARKET; SPECIAL E. The roll is missing a top section, possibly (based on a Footscray roll held in the BTM Archives), DEPOT; WILLIAMSTOWN RD; RAILWAY STATION. SPECIAL E - thought to be for the Explosives Factory. Through running to City from May 1954 when track extended and connected to main system. Map of the MMTB Tramway routes 1925 with a list of first and last cars, along with photographs of Wattle Park, Luna Park, and Studley Park. Provides information for the Prahran and Malvern lines, Hawthorn, Footscray, Essendon, Coburg, Kew, St Kilda, cable tram routes, and buses. Also provides information for passengers. The cover photo is of the front of W 296, with the destination of Esplanade. The map is dated by the opening of the line to West Brunswick as far as Albion St, the City Road to St Kilda line via Sturt St lines, and the electric line in Flemington Road which were all opened during mid to late 1925. See Reference. Shows a number of buildings and locations by a numbered reference list, including the Federal Parliament house. The map has advertisements around the outside of the map for Kiwi Shoe or boot polish.Yields information about the Melbourne tramway system in 1925 and demonstrates the methodology the MMTB used to provide information to travellers. Set of six photographs showing Domain Interchange or Junction including trams and buses in St Kilda Road. Photos by Bill Kingsley who lectured in Civil & Traffic Engineering at Footscray Technical College. These would have been taken to show how an interchange functions. Dated on an envelope with negatives as 13/10/1971. 1 - Tram stop showing shelter, SW6 886 (City) and Melbourne Brighton Bus No. 660 (City, route 602). Functional object - Destination Roll, Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB), "Footscray Depot", 1950?
Destination roll - white lettering on black background. Destination roll used at the TB Footscray depot. Has stencil words "STOP" on top and bottom, stencilled miniature destinations on rear to assist drivers to locate the destination. Letters are 146 high. Roll consists of a unpainted section, 520 long at top, 2280 long painted section and a 1500 long unpainted section at base. Has been rolled using a 16 diameter wooden dowel - 925 long. Destinations in order from top are: DEPOT; WILLIAMSTOWN RD; RAILWAY STATION; RUSSELL ST; BALLARAT RD; SPECIAL; FOOTBALL GROUND; EXPLOSIVES FACTORY; ORDANCE FTY; AUNITION FACTORY; PYROTECHNIC FACTORY; CITY VIA HAYMARKET. Victor Ernest COBB OM (14 August 1876-2 December, 1945) Born Footscray, Victoria Victor Cobb studied drawing under Bernard Hall at the National Gallery School in 1896. He was self taught in the art of etching, creating his own press and tools. He became known for his popular views of Melbourne and as a teacher of etching. Melbourne Grammar School marked its sesquicentenary in 2008. As part of the celebrations, a Talents Committed Exhibition was staged. This exhibition recognised 150 Old Melburnians who have made a difference to the City of Melbourne, the State of Victoria and the wider community in Australia and overseas.
