There are two “Georges”, George RICHARDSON and George HARGREAVES. Card - XMAS CARD WW1, 1915-1918
Stanley Arthur BARRIE No 3176 enlisted in the AIF in Section A 6th Field Ambulance on 7.1.1915 age 23 years 8 months. Embarked for Egypt 4.6.1915, embark for Gallipoli 30.8.1915, hospital 8.10.1915 (unclear) rejoin unit 20.10.1915, embark for France 19.3.1916, hospital 12.11.1916 with Blistered Feet, rejoin unit 5.12.1916, detached to 2nd Div Engineers 6.7.1917, rejoin unit 29.12.1917. After getting himself into trouble AWOL twice then threatening an Officer he transfers to the 23rd Batt on 20.8.1918, KIA 1.9.1918.Xmas /New year card from Pte S BARRIE. The outer cover is yellowish cardboard with a light paper on the inside. A string tassel runs up through the spine with a faded purple tassel on the end.Front cover; Australian Engineers badge with a spring of wattle under then the words “One King, One Flag, One Empire” with a crown and flag. Under the words “On Active Service 1915-1918”. MV Duntroon was a passenger motor ship built for the Melbourne Steamship Company and used as a troopship between 1942 and 1949. In 1950 it was returned to its owners and refuse as paasenger ship. It was sold in 1961and renamed Tong Hoo. Nicholas Garlick May have worked in the Duntroon between 1950 and 1961.One of the last purpose-built passenger & general cargo ships for the Australian coastal trade, the Duntroon was also known for its role as a troopship (1942-1949) and for the tragic incident on 20 November 1940 when she hit and sank the small auxiliary minesweeper HMAS Goorangai off Queenscliff with the loss of all 24 of Goorangai's crew. The Percy Uebergang family lived at Tooram Park, Allansford from 1912 until 1992. This book is part of the collection of items given into the care of the Cheese World Museum. Uebergang catalogue No.M1704 The book was given to Joyce Uebergang as a Christmas present from her aunt. Children's picture book with full colour cover featuring a yellow border. The front cover shows two Negro children sitting on a gate; the girl is dressed in blue with a yellow headscarf, the boy is dressed in yellow striped trousers, red and white spotted shirt and is playing a banjo. The title 'Merry and Bright' is red with yellow shadowing.
