Frances Emerson was born in Elsterwick in 1906 to Thomas James Emerson, a furniture manufacturer, and his wife Selina Sarah (nee Bowen). She had 3 siblings - Thomas George (1908-1977), Melvie Eleanor (1910-1965) and Hulett Moore (1915-1999). They lived at 18 Kent Road, known as 'Sunnybrae' and later as ‘Willacool’. Her mother died at 'Sunnybrae' a few months after the birth of her youngest brother. After attending state school, Frances went to Fintona. She trained as a kindergarten teacher at ‘Mooroolbeek’ Kindergarten Training College in Kew and taught during the 1930s. Her 1st appointment was at the Robert Cochrane Kindergarten in Auburn. She also worked at the City Free Kindergarten on the corner of Exhibition and Little Lonsdale Streets, where children came from very poor dwellings in ‘lanes off lanes’. Photos of the opening ceremony at the Tatura Museum, in conjunction with 50th Anniversary, of the Temple Society in Australia. Sister Beatrice Moore nursed at Camp 3 during WW2 and was invited by Tatura and District Historical Society to officially open their new buildings and display on POW and Internment Camps, on 22 September 1991. Leather suitcase owned by Matron "Trix" Moore, when she served in the Australian Army during WW2. Matron "Trix" Moore was the first Matron at 28 Camp Hospital, attached to Internment Camp 1. Rescued by Les Kelly from a council nature strip rubbish collection in Mentone.Leather, stitching around edges. Metal studs on base/rear. Metal clasps, locks & attachment for leather handle. Inner leather straps retaining lid of suitcase to bottom, straps secured by metal studs at top & staples at bottom. Metal studs & brackets/ guards on corners.(Both on front): B.
