Set of two newspaper cuttings, March 1953 regarding the roster, - one-man tram dispute in Geelong - 1953. Both cuttings pasted onto off white paper. and Newspaper name and date type on the top. .1 - "Geelong Trams May Stop After Sunday" - date obscured due to silver fish damage, some time between the 20th and the 29th - regarding a potential strike of Geelong tram crews due to grievances with the roster, walking times. Notes union had been re-registered at the time , but did not have an award. Quotes Mr. T. Farr, Mr. C. McDonald and that there were 85 men in the traffic branch. .2 - "Hearing Tram Dispute tomorrow" - dated 31st March 1953 - dispute to be heard by Chief Conciliation Commissioner, Mr, Mooney tomorrow. Includes Maps of the Victoria Hill Area, photographs of the remains of a twenty head crushing battery, burnt ground from quartz roasting, The Victoria Quartz Mine Photograph from Australian Mining Standard June 1899, The compressor beds and concrete foundations for the poppet legs all that remain today of the Victoria Quartz Mine deepest mine on Bendigo Goldfield 4613 feet or 1406.04 metres. Also included photograph of the view of Victoria Hill from The New Chum Hill in the 1870s. The Location of the 3 mines Ballerstedt's open cut, North Old Chum and Lansell's 180 are marked. A depiction of Rae's Open Cut gives an understanding of the primitive nature of early workings on the Goldfields. Yields information about the views of various letter writers, Bendigo union views, Geelong, public meetings, finances and protest action.Foolscap sheet of plain paper, with rounded corners, with 4 newspaper cuttings, concerning the mooted closure of the Ballarat Tram system 10 Feb to 13 Feb 1962. All from The Courier, unless noted otherwise. 1 - "Bus v Tram" - 10-2-1962 - letter - from M Stewart of Sydney, say that the move to buses as in Sydney should not be allowed to happen. 2 - "Tram Facts" - 13-2-62 - letter - about the need for a private operator to run at a profit, higher fares - a public authority would maintain concession fares. 3 - "On the Lines" - 13-2-62 - letter - supporting the trammies. 4 - "Bendigo Meeting Moves to Retain Trams" - 12-3-62 - reporting on a meeting of 11-2-62- in Bendigo, well attended. Included the local Union Secretary, Mr G. T. James, State Secretary Mr C O'Shea, President Mr. S. Edwards, note that fares in Geelong had increased 100% since closure there. Mr Stoneham, noted that the petition to close the system must be laid in Parliament for 24 days. Emmanuel College is the result of the amalgamation of St Ann's girls' college and Christian Brothers' College boys' school in 1991. Mother Philomene Maguire arrived in Warrnambool and commenced a Convent of Mercy and school with the consent of the then Bishop of Victoria, Bishop Goold. The school opened in Wyton House in Botanic Road. Brother Egan arrived in 1902 and set up a Brothers' group and school and 104 boys enrolled. Since its inception in 1991 Emmanuel College provides a broad education for students to Year 12 level. Grant was denied but Sigrid produced it anyway, with family doing the design and typesetting and partner Bill IRELAND loaning the money. Purchased at the launch 15 December, International Bookstore, Trades Hall.
