The Album was compiled by Nancy McHaffie late 1990's, with the assistance of Edith Jeffery's, with her book "Garden of Memories" and extensive knowledge of Phillip Island. The Cemetery lies back from the road and is surrounded by Manna Gums, rare Peppermint Gums, Blackwoods and other native trees. In all 25 acres of land were set aside as Crown Land in the land settlement of 1868. There are 6.2 acres of wetlands near the cemetery entrance.466-25: William and Alice Richardson: Alice Barnard married William Richardson at Hawthorn, April 1887. Alice's father Fredrick was a Model Maker employed at the Melbourne Museum. Alice died in childbirth having her third child, Joseph in 1892. Baby Joseph died in April 1893, eight months later at Rhyll. 466-26: The Forrest Family: The Forrest family were amongst our early settlers. The Forrest Caves are named after them. Matthew Forrest arrived by dray from Tarradale on 9th November 1869. He died in 1916 at the age of 75. His Grandson, Peter Forrest Sr. has recorded that Matthew was the first to plant Marum Grass on the Island to prevent erosion.phillip island cemetery, nancy mchaffie, edith jeffery -

This is a collection of 12 coloured photographs of the Warley Hospital and Nursing home donated by Meg Davis. In 1923 the Warley Hospital was established in a house purchased by Mr Thompson. The new hospital was built in 1962 and the Nursing Home Annex was added in the mid 1970's. Donated by Jessie Smith (nee Small) Shetland Heights San Remo was originally owned by the Small family then purchased by the Maclellan's. Grace Christian is the lady in the photograph. Her sister was Dorothy who married John Dunstan. John Dunstan was at state school in San Remo with Ray Maclellan, father of Peter Maclellan who stills resides in San Remo. One of a collection of over 400 photographs in an album commenced in 1960 and presented to the Phillip Island & Westernport Historical Society by the Shire of Phillip Island The race in this photograph was the Australian Junior Tourist Trophy race over 75 miles/12 laps. The winner, Cec Weatherby received 20 pounds prize money and a sash. The race was run concurrectly with the Lightweight race, which was common back then. Peter Shannon's brother has the actual bike that came 3rd in that 1935 Lightweight race.Photograph of C. Weatherby leading other Motor Cyclists rounding "Tin Pot Corner" in a Motor Cycle Race in 1935. Corrections to the above given by Peter Shannon 2/11/2018. No. 11 was Don Bain actually leading the group, who came 3rd, No. 64 was Cec Weatherby who won the race and No. 25 was Ron Walters who came 4th. In the 1970s this church had met in temporary premises in Eltham. Lots of the original 1920s subdivision remained south of Nyora Road and a number of these lots were utilized for the Eltham Christian School, which was established by the Eltham Christian Church in 1981. The school operated on this site until 2000. The premises were owned by the Nillumbik Community Church who were in operation till November 2010 when the Eltham Baptist Church commenced a lease arrangement until the site was purchased by them in April 2012. The building is constructed of brick and timber with a balcony on two sides that looks over an expanse of grass.
