From notes on the ILC (Intermediate Legacy Club): The ILC was formed in 1929 with a total membership of 18. The idea of the club sprang from those boys who had outgrown the Junior Legacy Club. In the early days it fielded a lacrosse team and it was this that mainly held the members together. Enthusiasm wained after a few years as it lacked a solid objective. The answer came from one of its members and in 1938 they founded the Don Esses Club. This was a club for the children of incapacitated ex-servicemen which met every Thursday night at 7.30 run by the ILC members. This photo provides an example of the beautiful costumes worn by Junior Legacy girls for Legacy's Annual Demonstrations at the Melbourne Town Hall. The girls are dressed as native American girls. A similar photo was featured in the Age Newspaper on 20 October 1952. The caption read 'These girls of the Legacy Club could pass for Indian lasses as they wait their turn to perform in the Totem Tom Tom at Melbourne Town Hall, They were among those who participated in Legacy's annual demonstration of physical culture, dancing and allied activities.' Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to the late 1970's, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall or Olympic Pool Stadium. The beautiful costumes were made by members of the Junior Legacy Mothers' Club and the Melbourne Legacy Wives' Association. A Legacy widow, Beryl Tucker and Legatee Eddie Jowett posing as if they were dancing, for a professional photographer. The photo was featured in the 30 September 1991 issue of the Widows' Newsletter. The article mentions that Legatee Jowett coordinates a month concert at Legacy House on the first Monday of the month. The concerts are free to Legacy widows and the artist are first class professionals. Around 180 widows attend regularly. Legatee Jowett had a regular saying, almost a commandment to the ladies when it was time to leave: "You are never dressed until you are wearing a smile".
