David Gordon Collection. Torpedo bottles, also known as Hamilton bottles, were used for aerated or carbonated water. They were oval shaped with a neck at one end, and were deliberately designed so that they could not be stored upright. Torpedo bottles were in common use from the 1840s to the 1870s, when they were superseded by the Codd Neck bottle.

William Tuckfield embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Ballarat on 19th February 1917. The SS Ballarat was torpedoed by the German submarine UB.32, but no lives were lost. The first HMAS Torrens was a Torpedo - Boat Destroyer which served through WW1. Built at Cockatoo Dockyard in NSW she was commissioned in July 1916 and served for 10 years. In 1975 a second HMAS Torrens was in service, this time a Destroyer Escort. Ward room plaque fro the HMAS Torrens.The main symbol on the plaque is a crow confirming the ships connection to the Torrens River in South Australia.

The Onslow was decommissioned in 1999. She was one of 5 other Oberon's and gave the Royal Australian Navy a formidable submarine force. The motto of the submarine arm is " Strength, silence, surprise". She was laid down in 1967 , launched 1968 and commissioned 1969. She had a length of 89.9M a beam of 8.07M she had speed of 15 knots above water and 12 knots submerged. She had compliment of 60 sailors and 8 officers. Her armament consisted of six 21 inch bow torpedo tubes capable of launching anti-ship and anti-submarine Mk48 torpedoes and anti-ship UGM 84 Harpoon missiles.
