Handwritten document, Memorandum of Agreement, 1877, 24/10/1877
This is a Memorandum of Agreement between the Registrar of the School of Mines - William Henry Barnard and the Collector of Monies for the school - James Johnston Twining. It states the length of time the monies can be held by the collector - 48 hours. It then must be paid into the Union Bank of Australia, Melbourne, to the credit of the Council of the School. The Collector was paid Five Pounds per year plus Ten Percent in every hundred pounds collected at the end of each month. Either party could terminate the agreement. The certificate was presented to Ralph Ingram Moore after completing and passing the course of Mine Engineering. He attended The School of Mines from 1907 to 1910 and achieved this First Class Certificate. Ralph died on Paschendale Ridge in 1917. See Number 134 for a report of his death. Lonergan of Eastern Pensylvania addressed to Ballaratt University, and eventuallty delivered to the Ballarat School of Mines. The letter requests information on a Mrs Burke of Ballarat, whose husband was lost in the Bush. Mrs Burke ran a boading house.
