There are two railway bridges within the Rupertswood grounds. This bridge is over Jackson's Creek near the weir.A photograph of a bridge across a river. On 4th of August 1978 work began on the construction of the Goonawarra Estate on land that was the former Goonawarra Farm which overlooked the town of Sunbury abnd the Jacksons Creek valley. The building in the photograph was the first Sunbury State School No.1002. Prior to the school being built, lessons were conducted in the Presbyterian Church. After parents organised a petition in 1869 for the school to be housed in a proper building and a committee of management was formed, work on a new school building commenced. The old building had many structural deficiencies and the red brick building was built on the same site in 1911. This photograph is of one of the Aboriginal sites in Sunbury. It is situated on a hillside overlooking Riddell Road near the water tanks. It is uncertain what part this ring played in Aboriginal culture but it is thought to be a place where men gathered. The photograph was taken to welcome home the Sunbury men who had fought in overseas battles during World War 1.Those who were not wearing their uniforms had been discharged as a result of injuries but they were eligible to be included in the Welcome Home functions that took place after 1918.Many men from Sunbury enlisted in the defence forces during World War 1. The students in the photo were attending Sunbury Common School No. 1002 which was first permanent government school building to be erected in 1871 in the town on the corner of Macedon and Stawell Streets with an enrolment of 32 students. Mr. Johnston and Grace McKenzie were guests at the official opening of the Alister Clark Memorial Rose Garden in Bulla on the 12th December 1999. Mr. Johnston is the grandson of James Stewart Johnston, who is the grandson of James Stewart Johnson, Chief Superintendent in the Victorian Colonial Government and in 1864 established his winery and vineyard at 'Craiglee' in Sunbury. Bill Walls is the artist who did the original watercolour of the small building, that was originally a gaol sited at The Gap settlement. The Gap, on the Calder Highway, preceded Sunbury's settlement and the gaol was used during the 1850s gold rush era, when the precious metal was being brought to Melbourne from the gold fields. This book is hand written in ink a list of occupiers and addresses of properties in Sunbury requiring cleaning of water closets between the years 1895 and 1908. Rupertswood Mansion was the Sunbury residence of the Clarke family from 1874 until 1922 when H.V.McKay of Sunshine Harvester fame bought it from Hon. W.L. Russell Clarke in 1922. After the death of H.V.McKay in 1926, it was purchased by W. Naughton who then sold the mansion and 700 acres of land to the Salesian Fathers, who are the present owners. Before the Shire of Bulla built permanent offices in Macedon Street, the council used to meet in the Memorial Hall and had rooms there to conduct regular business. Some cottages were demolished to build the new offices which were completed and opened in 1966. Over the years as the shire's population increased, further additions were added. After Sunbury became part of Hume City Council, the former council building was occupied by Wester Water and Vic Roads.Apart from the former Shire of Bulla Roads Board office built in Sunbury in the 1860s, the 1966 building is the first council building to be built in Sunbury.A black and white photograph of a single storey office building and the surrounding garden. The wooden pedestrian bridge spanned the rail tracks at Sunbury Railway Station and were replaced with a more modern bridge and ramp when upgrades were done at the station and along the Bendigo line in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The water tank beyond the station building was used to refill the engines with water when steam engines were used. Diesel driven V Line trains now convey commuters from the regional towns along the Bendigo region to Melbourne.The Bendigo Line was the first government rail line to open and it reached Sunbury in 1859. The 'Meeise' French car is parked outside the former Mechanics Institute Hall in Stawell Street, Sunbury. J Eadie was responsible for the building of the hall in 1885 and the foundation stone was laid by Lady Janet Clarke. The former Shire of Bulla conducted their council meetings in the hall from 1923 until 1956 when new offices were built in Macedon Street. Later the RSL took over occupancy of the hall and it became known as the Memorial Hall. The exercise classes were established in 1986 and were initially conducted in the Scout Hall in Miller Street.
