This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand.The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. This is Vol.5 of the Moorabbin Mirror produced by CMHS members Fran & Holger Bader , Valma Sharp August 2015 The Moorabbin Mirror reflects the history and heritage of the former City of Moorabbin — derived from Mooroobin, ‘a resting place’ in the Bunurrung spoken language. In 1994, the City of Moorabbin was integrated into the Cities of Bayside, Glen Eira, Kingston and Monash This Issue contains photographs of the CMHS Christmas Lunch, new BCM Toilet, Life member Lorna Thatcher, local Heritage buildings, and William Highett. Members are given the Dates of Events and Committee Meetings ,in 2016, the trial of an extra Open day on the 2nd Sunday of the month and Membership Renewals are due. Sponsors of the successful Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Moorabbin January 2nd 2016 have received Certificates of Appreciation designed by Fran Bader as did Nick Staikos MP Bentleigh for copying CMHS fliers. The story of the development of Highett, and requests for photos of the former City of Moorabbin and works by August Rietman as we prepare for the Centenary of his arrival at Box Cottage 2017 which will proceed following CMHS being chosen to join the MAV Roving Curator Program. Members are asked to submit suggestions for a ' Local History Walk'. This medallion was distributed as a memento of the Coronation of George V1 and Elizabeth. John Glass Cramond and James Dickson established a shop in Warrnambool in 1855 in Timor Street and moved to Liebig Street a few years later. New premises were erected in 1878 and the department store selling mens and ladies wear on the corner of Liebig and Timor Streets was a landmark building in Warrnambool until the business closed in 1973. Robin Boyd was involved in creating several TV series for the ABC University of the Air. 'Design in Australia' was an eight part series. (Items D184-D193 contain all the manuscripts except part six titled 'Communications'.) In Part 5, Boyd identifies three styles of interior decoration in Australia. The first, Exhibit A is directly influenced by the fashions of Paris, London and New York and does not integrate the interior with the exterior. Exhibit B is the Australian architectural style of the 1960s. Exhibit C is characterised by practical, cheerful and easy to clean up interior fittings based on colourful plastics. Boyd refers to this style as "Australian pop art". He continues by explaining why Exhibit C came to be the preferred Australian style over Exhibit B. He suggests that the Australian public is ill-informed and misguided, ultimately concluding that Australian interior design reflects the public's lack of taste. Identification not certain. Original copy of photograph in catalogue was identified only as "Mr Lewis Snr", but the same photograph in the Lewis family file is named as "George Lewis Snr" (George Lewis 1855-1935). Maker's name on photograph, "Will S. Anderson" suggests it is of William Lewis. (William Snowdall Anderson was an itinerant photographer in Victoria in the 1890s. He advertised his services in the Camperdown Chronicle in 1895. If photograph which shows a reasonably elderly man was taken in the 1890s, subject would be too old to be George Lewis.) William Lewis married Ann Keating at Gnarkeet in 1853.
