A number of Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens investigated the graves of 8 notable Ballarat citizens in 2007 and found Thomas Stoddart's grave to be in a deplorable state. Plans were made by John Garner and Jenny Burrell for the restoration of Thomas Stoddart's grave and the addition of a plaque noting his significant donation of 12 Carrera marble statues to the Ballarat Botanical Gardens.Two pages of typing. p.2 (2 copies). Set of two newspaper clippings pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side. First clipping from The Age, p4, dated May 31, 1971 of the setting up of the BTPS by a group of young people the previous day. Has photo of a group taking a photo of the driver (Mr. Les Bird) holding the trolley pole rope. Notes that they hope to keep six trams going, tram to be operated on a voluntary basis similar to Puffing Billy, many of the group were Melbourne students and that the Ballarat contingent was consciously small. The first cutting also has a small piece on the top edge, cut out from the same newspaper referring to the article on page 4, titled "TRAMS". When Ballarat Junior Technical School's new building was opened in 1921, the surrounding area was rubble-strewn with raw clay slopes. The Head, A W Steane designed the landscaping of the slopes from the Gaol wall down to the Battery Paddock. The boys did much of the work. Apart from beautifying the grounds, this project occupied their leisure time, particularly as they had nowhere to play. The school acquired the gaol site in April 1969.
