Sign - SECV, Safety - Grinding Wheels
The State Electricity Commission of Victoria produced and displayed safety signs for their employees during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme.KHES was constructed from the late 1940s to early 1960s and included the construction of Mt Beauty and Bogong townships. Safety was a concern for the SECV towards its workers. Metal black print on white background with yellow 'emphasis' at the top - 'Safety'. "Instructions for the use of / Grinding Wheels". Functional Object - Employee's Pass, Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB), 20/08/2001 12:00:00 AM
Dark green cloth enveloping two pieces of cardboard, joined together with the cloth, printed on the outside with the MMTB logo and the words "Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board / EMPLOYEE'S PASS / 1947". On the inside, two pre printed pieces of off white paper have been glued to the cloth covered cards. The top card has been over stamped using a hand stamp machine with the Number "8478" and overprinted in purple ink " ' 47". Space for the name of the employee, occupation and for authorising signature of the Board Secretary has been provided. The bottom section details the conditions of use and space for the employees signature. Ticket issued to "L. J. Denmead", "Inspector" and signed by "R.A. Spencer"? as Board Secretary and signed by "Leslie Denmead". All entries made in black ink. These passes would have been issued as part of the conditions of employment. Functional object - Well and pump
The pump was restored by Alan Mitchell who was an employee of Zerbe Engineering, Ashburn Place, Blackburn. The work was carried out by Alan in their workshop.The pump was patented by Joseph W. Douglas, Middletown Conn. and the patent was assigned to W & B Douglas.A reconstructed well of red bricks. Circular, dome shaped, it has a grill on the flat top of the dome on which the force pump is situated next to the grill. It circulates the water which is held in a tank beneath the brick structure. The force pump is hand operated with a replacement handle made c1965 by Alan Mitchell who restored and donated the pump. The Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme was constructed by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. Draftsmen drew up the plan of the layout as per the instructions from the engineers. The plan was drawn up on a transparency sheet and paper prints run off on a 'dyeline' copier. The 'Chief draftsman' and 'Design engineer' and 'Civil engineers recommended it and approved it. Historic: This plan gives a time line for the work on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. It is a good example of the work of a draftsman and the copying process in 1958.Large topography map of the area covered by the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme in 1958. Booklet, Patriotic Minute Book Woollen Mill, 1915
This exercise book contains the Minutes of the Warrnambool Woollen Mill Employees Patriotic Fund. This fund was established in 1915 in a scheme whereby employees of the Warrnambool Woollen Mill donated 2½% of their weekly wages to the fund to assist with the war effort during World War One. The money received was given to such charitable causes as the Red Cross, the Belgian Fund, the Babies of France and the Local Distress Fund. The Patriotic Fund was discontinued in 1919This Minute Book is of interest as an example of the local campaigns organized in Warrnambool to assist the war effort in World War One. It includes the names of office-bearers of the group and lists the type of activities in which they were engaged. Therefore it is of benefit to researchers. This is an exercise book with a green and black mottled patterned cover with red binding on the spine. A printed label on the cover has been torn away. The pages are cream-coloured with printed blue lines. The entries are handwritten in black ink. The book has been bound with metal staples but the binding has come apart at the top section. Most likely made as a general production item by Stokes for tramways and railways.Demonstrates an item made to indicate the wearer's position of the tramway employee.Uniform Badge for a "Conductor". Manufactured by Stokes and Sons, Melbourne. Made from a cast brass item and then nickel plated. Cast in the form of the handwritten or script word/s and underlined and rounded to fit on a cap. On the rear, silver soldered on are two brass loops at either of the badge to enable to be sewn or fitted with clips onto a cap.
