When Australia changed from imperial currency to decimal currency on 14/2/1966, a well-planned operation of conversion took place. This involved changing public transport tickets as well, especially those where a printed value was shown. The MMTB printed dual currency tickets as part of the process. Passengers could often transfer from one service to another - eg changing from a tram to a bus, without having to pay a second fare. A transfer ticket would be issued on request and this along with the original fare ticket would be shown to the conductor or bus driver at the time of transfer. Check tickets would be issued by a conductor to record that the person had shown a periodical eg scholars ticket. This enabled passenger counting as well. Ticket allowed Scholars or school children to travel on MMTB trams/buses to attend schools at a concession rate. This one was used on buses. Inside gives issue details - issued to a person in Kew to attend University High School, five sections, for use to 18/12/1959, from Earl St to Lygon St via Princes St and Johnston St. Cost 50/- Ticket No. 1242.Demonstrates a Scholar's ticket to allow a student to travel from Kew to Lygon St.Blue clothed backed paper ticket, printed as a MMTB "Scholar's Concession Ticket", for 3rd Term. This Certificate has been issued to Kevin F Tierney, who worked initially as a University Student conductor during the summer holidays, then as a conductor or a driver during two following years.
