Set of A4 photocopies of 15 years of annual reports of The Electric Supply Company of Victoria Limited from 1920 to 1934. Most of the reports comprise three sheets - Directors Report, left hand side of the Balance Sheet, Trading Account and Profit and Loss Account on the right hand side. Some reports have a statutory declaration by the Manager and Secretary that the reports submitted are a true copy of the report. Items .1 to .12 detail the number of lamps connected, passengers carried and trading account for the last three years. This practice stopped when ESCo sold the company to the SEC but continued to manage it for a further four years. The Directors report from 9/1900 note the forthcoming sale of the company to the British Insulated Wire Company Limited and the problems of finalising the sale. Set of A4 photocopies of 6 years of half yearly reports of The Ballaarat Tramway Company Limited (Horse Trams) from 3/1897 to 9/1902. All reports except the last one comprise a two sheet printed or typeset report giving notice of meeting, directors report, statement of assets and liabilities, share structure and profit and loss account. The last report 9/1902 is typed, and lists assets and credits only on the profit and loss account. Meetings were held at Craig's Hotel, Lydiard St. The Directors report from 9/1900 note the forthcoming sale of the company to the British Insulated Wire Company Limited and the problems of finalising the sale. This file contains three items: 1/A review of the ROSSTOWN RAIL TRAIL from LIVING IN GLEN EIRA, vol. 11, 2004, Issue 4, no. 25, date and author unknown. The review explains the purpose of the Rail Trail with a brief narrative of the history behind Rosstown Sugar Mill Railway line. Concluding with information on the location of the Trail and the expected time required to walk the entire track included in the review is a map of the Rail Trail, which marks significant sites along the trail with historic pictures. 2/A newspaper article from THE AGE, dated Tuesday 21/10/1980 and written by Iola Matthews, reporting on the circumstances that led to the publication of the book RETURN TO ROSSTOWN written by Des Jowett and Ian Weickhardt. The article begins with a brief biography of the authors before moving into details of the book’s content, providing a further biography of W. Murray Ross which includes information on his financial ventures – particularly the Rosstown Rail – his marriage and children. This file contains two items pertaining to the property housing the Caulfield RSL: 1/A photocopy (2 pages) of an assessment of the property, dated 01/1997, by Andrew Ward, for purposes of ascertaining its historical significance. The assessment describes the architectural features of the property, offers a brief history of it, specifies why it should be considered significant, and recommends that it be added to the National Estate Register. Included is a black-and-white photograph of the exterior of the building. 2/An assessment (17 long pages plus appendix) of the car parking issues procured as a result of the decision to refurbish the Caulfield RSL. Prepared by Grogan Richards Pty Ltd, dated 13/11/2002, reviewed by Joanna Gauetty, and authorised by Rody Jude. Included is a description of the Club’s location and surrounding motorways as they existed at the time, a description of the Club itself (eg its opening hours and rate of patronage as per each opening hour), occupancy surveys, descriptions of other recent car parking construction within the same area, a description of the extensions the RSL is aiming to construct, and descriptions of the considerations any new construction must take into account. On Feb 3rd 1948, the Mt Beauty State School was opened with 28 pupils in all grades up to VII. Classes began in the SECV Recreation Hall, which was converted to classrooms during the school week and returned to a recreation hall on weekends for motion pictures and social occasions for SECV workers and their families. A new school building was opened in 1950 on the current school site, with an enrolment of 170 primary and secondary students. A further extension of 4 buildings was added in 1951 with a population increase to 303 students. In May 1953, the status of the school was raised to Higher Elementary School with a total of 403 students. In 1958, the school population rose to a high of 617 students with 436 in primary and 181 in secondary. In 1964, the status of the secondary section of Mt Beauty HES was raised to a High School and was moved to separate facilities in the west of town in September 1964 Pictorial history of children who attended Mt Beauty Higher Elementary School in 1960. Many of the students would have had parents working on the Hydro-Electric Scheme in and around Mt Beauty. Many of the children would also have been the descendants of parents who immigrated to Australia as foreign workers on the Hydro Electric Scheme such as Alex Van De Ruijt, whose parents were Dutch. The City of Moorabbin Historical Society was formed c 1960 by a group of Moorabbin residents who were concerned that the history of the area should be preserved. A good response to a call for items related to the historical area of Moorabbin Shire brought donations of a wide variety of artefacts which are now preserved by the current members of CMHS at Box Cottage Museum . Helen Stanley, Secretary of CMHS, began producing a Newsletter for members in April 2007 to provide current information and well researched items of historical interest.Helen Stanley has produced a bi-monthly Newsletter, 2007 - 2013, for the members of the City of Moorabbin Historical Society that contains well researched interesting historical items, notification of upcoming events, current advice from Royal Australian Historical Society , Museums Australia Victoria and activities of Local Historical Societies. The Newsletter is an important record of the activities of the CMHS. Tom Sheehy, past President of CMHS, was an Historian and Author of ‘Battlers Tamed the Sandbelt’. A4 paper printed both sides x1. The modern mine is accessed via the Swan Decline, which commences at the Kangaroo Flat site on the southern outskirts of Bendigo and progresses in a north easterly direction between the Deborah and Sheepshead anticlines, reaching a depth of almost 1000 m below the City of Bendigo. Development of this decline commenced in 1998. Swan Decline closed and history preserved In a major rehabilitation milestone at Kangaroo Flat, the Swan Decline Bendigo’s primary gateway to underground mining, was permanently closed in December 2022. Important parts of Bendigo’s gold rush history were also preserved from the onsite office buildings with 19 boxes of records, and 1350 old photos being scanned and provided to the local historical societies and the Goldfields Library Corporation. A volunteer from the Bendigo Historical Society, Kay MacGregor, also scanned approximately 40 bookshelves of newspaper clippings to assist with recording and preserving geological drilling locations.Black and white photocopies of photographs of Swan Decline, showing some stages of underground construction. Eleven images on 3 pages, dated 16/4/2000 (10 a.m.) show decline walls, rock bolts and markout of tunnel shape. One image shows a utility in the tunnel. Final three images on one page, have notations on the photos: 'opposite SP18 LHS decline', 'just up from previous 3 box positions' and 'just up from tank, same side' On bottom RH side 'spots for scale attention, IT required, all lower decline.' Produced by Warren Doubleday for the BTPS at the time, has the original bromides for the various photographs used. Printed by a laser printer and then pasted up with the Fares Please! titles and photographs using Scotch Magic tape. Some yellowing of the tape or other tapes used is noticeable.
